Ordered my Cobra!
Hi Guys
I've been reading the forum for a month or so and the madness has started. I just placed my order with vintage motorsports for my backdraft cobra :D specs: Spectra Blue with white stripes VMS 427 engine (Performance Engineering): 500+HP & Torque TKO-600 Ceramic coated headers & side pipes Heated seats 3M protection on rear fenders Aluminum radiator upgrade 17" knock offs Car should be in my garage by Christmas, the wait is going to be brutal! Quick question for the board, I'm thinking of doing the 3M invisa-shield on the front as well as the rear fenders flares. I've owned various performance cars in the past and never used a clear bra before so I'd like to hear your thoughts about the quality and longevity of 3M invisa-shield thanks, and looking forward to meeting some of you in person Art |

Backdrafts are awesome, clear bra the front and the fenders, I did, it is a great addition and piece of mind.

Clear bra the front for sure, up to the front hood line.
I have a black/bronze stripe Backdraft and the highway protection is a great peace of mind addition. You will find some hard dings on the clear film as time goes on, but nothing ever gets through and the color is never hurt. BTW, mine is black and you can not tell the bra is on there, with the exception of feeling a line where the film stops. Have it end at as many edges as possible and even that will go away. One last thing I did. I had the film put on top of the doors, just rolling over the outside edge. Now I have no marks from opening or closing the doors (rings or finger nails....and no marks from a watch band as you use the door top for an arm rest. Also, on the passenger side, you can never tell what they are going to do to that door trying to get in and our. It's been great protection and look super. Go easy when your get your ride. Go very easy in the beginning. It's just about the most fun you can have in a fendered car and it can kill you between heartbeats. If you are going to have trouble, it will be early in your ownership. Learn your new car one slow step at a time and you will be with us a long, long time. Congratulations! Congratulations. |
I first saw the clear plastic film stuff on a black Lambo at the weekly Santana Row car get together. Very nicely done, and I would guess not cheap. The only down side for me was the less than good looking line where the stuff ends. I painted my car myself. I have plenty of left over paint- none of that clear plastic stuff for me! Kind of hits me like plastic over the living room furniture. At the end of the day, it's not a $250,000 car painted in a far away land by someone that has a nice glass of red with lunch. It's a Cobra built by a guy who likes beer, a few chips in the paint just add character! Would be better if those chips revealed aluminum, not fiberglass, but I'm on a budget. :)
Congrats on the purchase! Jon |

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll talk to Jay at VMS on Monday and get the invisi-shield on the nose as well.
@wrodgers55, thanks for the wise words. I agree, these things are dangerous if not respected. 500+rwhp combined with 2200lbs, no abs, no dsc, no roof and no airbags is a formula for pain if driven without care. I've only test driven two cobras, both FFR with ~500hp, and noticed that even coming off the throttle the car wants to twist itself in half. so you have stresses on the car when you WOT and when you ease up on the gas, it fights you in both directions so that's something I need to get used to best Art |
Congratulations Art enjoy the build. Looks like a great package you picked.
Jay and Brian at VMS are great to deal with and do a great job setting up their cars. I purchased my car from them 5 year ago and continue to receive excellent service. VMS installed 3M protection on my front end and rear fenders. 7,000 + miles later it still looks the same (no yellowing) glad I had it installed. The 3M blends in with the color of my car (titanium) very well. Best of luck. Peter Backdraft 488 |
