Back in Black? California mulling return of vintage-style plates

elmariachi 03-29-2012 02:47 PM

Not blaspheming Cali but small thinking yields small results. In Texas, a startup here is Austin called myplates.com made a deal with the state...."We'll market the plates, you get the prisoners to make 'em." People here are paying $200-400 A YEAR for certain vanity plates and they are everywhere now. I have heard they have sold close to a half a million of the various plates. Yet Cali needs to 2500 people to sign up for a vintage plate before it can even be produced? Another example of why we need more privatization in government.

Being a native California, I feel I have earned the right to say, "You're 100% right!"

state is so broke they need every revenue generating idea they can muster. heck I'm all for ideas like this because as soon as they run out of "new" ideas they're going to raise my taxes!

PANAVIA 04-15-2012 09:06 PM

This idea was spawned after a certain "run-in" in CA. - as far as i am concerned If you wanted PINK plates you should be able to get them as long as they are on the correct car and read the correct things. --

I look forward to the final fruition of this deal.

I guess this is why you can't get the vintage looking California plates on line anymore at this place Custom USA State Plates, customize your embossed metal state license plate . government regulations and all that.

I painted my new plates black and yellow and saved a ton of money.....

tcrist 10-05-2012 10:17 AM

cobrakidz,

Actually it is legal to paint your plates but you have to abide by the law http://www.ehow.com/facts_7823428_ca...color-law.html.

Painting your plates just give the police another reason to pull you over.
