SB100, Smog Cert Rquired notice
Has anyone in CA received a smog notice on a SB100 certified Cobra?
I received my registration renewal notice and was very surprised to see a "Smog Certification Required" notice on it. It's SB100 certified and I've never had to smog the car. Anyone run into this issue? Thanks... |

how to not get SMOG renewal every year? - FFCars.com : Factory Five Racing Discussion Forum Eddie has the same problem every year. Might help. Check your sb100 sticker against his. |
Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll have to do some time at DMV, by the sound of things. I appreciate your reply. I'll post what happens. Thanks!

Sometimes I think they do this randomly just to give their people something to do.

You have a PM. |
Thanks Ken, I'll keep you posted, appreciate the info...

Raceco, please keep all of us apprised of your progress. I find the whole thing rather bizarre. If I didn't know better, tongue in cheek, I say someone is trying to mess with us.

I just received my DMV paperwork for my SB100 car built in 2008 - no smog required , just $$$>$$$$>$$$.

My situation is resolved! I called Sacramento and explained my case. They indeed did see that my car was exempt (SB100) and instructed me to go to a DMV office and pay the registration, as it's documented in the "Statement of Facts". Do not send in or pay on line, as it will come back to you as incomplete, requiring smog. I went to AAA, using their DMV satellite station, explaining to them what I was told to do. I filled out a "Statement of Facts" document, simply stating my car was SB100 certified, exempt from smog. Paid my reg and received my tags. Special thanks to Bingo2...

Quote:
"Vehicles registered in areas subject to the biennial smog certification program are required to submit evidence of a smog certification every other renewal period. Starting January 1, 2005, owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification. The registration renewal notice mailed to you by the department will indicate if a smog certification is required. If a smog certification is required and you have not had a smog inspection, you may still pay your registration fees to avoid any late fees. However, you will not receive your new registration or year sticker until the smog information has been received by DMV." |
