Bay Area Engine Builder

I have had nothing but problems with my current builder who has had my car who has had my car for almost 5 months to build an engine and has not even started. I keep getting excuses and if I try to press the issue to get a date, he gets extremely angry.

I need to find someone local who can build me a dual four barrel 545 motor. I would appreciate any opinions.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks for the tips. Has anyone worked with Top of the Hill Performance in Livermore??

I know Craig Hill. I have a friend that will only take his car to Craig. From what I understand is that Craig is real good, but in my opinion he comes off as an A$$.

I was going to have him build my engine and he told me "You cant afford me". He had & has no idea if I could or can afford him. I had my engine built somewhere else.

My engine and rodneym's dual paxton FE were built by Tom Lucas of FE Specialties in Sacramento.

There's also a gentleman in the East Bay, who has built quite a few local engines for club members and he works out of his garage. His name escapes me, but he comes highly recommended too.

Mohuska,

I don't know just how local you want your builder to be but I drove up from Los Angeles to FE Specialties in Sacramento. That's a pretty short trip IMO. ;)

I think you're pretty lucky to have Tom Lucas him that close.

+1 for FE Specialties.

Thanks for the tips. Does FE build 460 based motors?

Tom built the motor for my FIA and I am very happy with it.

Tom can build anything, even non-ford engines. Check out his website.

Bell & Gaines Race Engines in Modesto. Top of the line when it comes to precision machine work.

Bell and Gaines is good, also in Sacramento , Engines by Rex. Will take fe back to be refreshed soon. Rex did my boat motors and still is active in all forms of engines, boats, street rods, sprint cars, and I believe his engine is in Flip Top cobra.

Thanks everyone for their suggestions. I am leaning towards FE. Spoke to Tom and he seems like the guy I am looking for.

+3 for Tom Lucas at FE, - if he cant make you happy, you are unable to BE happy.

if you need motor tweaks and things, - we can help you, - as well as if you want a SHELBY ENGINES motor.

we are now working with a Builder in LA on a customer car, will post pics later!
