Huntington beach 2014
So who all is going chime in and let us know.
I know it's a 2 1/2 month out but it will be here sooner than you think. Our route for the last 2 years has been to meet up friday morning in south san jose at The Flames Restaurant 7170 Santa Teresa Blvd, San Jose, CA leaving at 8ish and then straight done 101. Was thinking maybe go down hwy 1 from Montery to san luis obispo????? any one have any thoughts on that? I know it will add another 1 1/2 to 2 hours but it is a nice drive. Chime in your thoughts. For everyone wondering, The Huntington Beach Cruise-In started out as a FFR alternative to the annual Knotts Berry Farm Kit Car Show - originally intended to celebrate those that build FFR cars (reportedly because KBF politely told Dave his FFR's are winning too much), Dave Smith decided to open this event up to ALL makes of cars that are replica's of anything. Last year, we had a Fierroarri, and in front of the Wilwood tent was an Interceptor (albeit, it was an original.) GT40 replica's, a bucket car, the 1920's Mercedes replica complete with chauffeur (otherwise known as the owner), and the usual FFR cars. Quite frankly, even if it's not a replica, they didn't turn any classic looking car away; hell, we even had a Ford GT come in the first year he decided to allow all replicas. Dave is just a car nut and appreciates even hot rods or restorations. Last year was also the FIRST time we got to park on Main St. and if you saw my pictures, you know that's where you want to park (near all the food!) Bring what you want to this event; a Rat Rod, a Sunbeam Tiger, SPF, whatever. :D |

This show is geared toward Factory Five models
however, their web does say "Registration is open to all Factory Five makes. Non-Factory Five makes are welcome, but space is limited.". It is a great location for a show. As Herman said this event was started by Factory Five for Factory Five cars as an alternative show to The Knott's Kit Car show in 2008 . Note:BACC actually started BACC Santa Barbara (aka: Not Knott's) 3 years earlier in 2005, when everyone started looking for more to do than just sit in the blistering hot parking lot outside of Knott's Berry Farm :MECOOL:. Here's a link to what Factory Five has on their web site: 2014 Huntinigton Beach Cruise In Question: Though it's more scenic to take 101 the travel time is about 6 to 6 1/2 Hrs plus stops from San Jose, Hwy 5 would be about 1hr less. Yes, the 101 route is much longer; we break for lunch in Santa Barbara area or there abouts. Eventually you have to choose between the 410 or 1 through several cities and that's what kills a lot of the time, regardless. This year, we're contemplating I-5 but somewhere along the way near Bakersfield, cut over to 101 through the mountains and then take 1. This might make up for the longer but more scenic 101.
Another idea was to leave Thur. evening and get 1/2 way down and stay overnight in some hotel in Bakersfield (I hear one is next to a police station), then Fri. morning, we can take all the time we want to get to HB. This way it's not a huge rush all in one day. I can go either way on that. Personally, I have to talk to Melinda and schedule dropping off the kid to High School Friday morning. That's the only reason I may not drive Thur. night. |
I've been attending the show every year with my SPF even though I haven't owned a FFR Cobra for the last five years.
It would be great to see more non-FFR's participate. t's really a great venue to display our cars. Sun, parking on Main Street in Surf City, USA, bikinis, surf, food, what more could you want? |
