Anyone with a slabside I can sit in?
Does anyone have an ERA slabside I can sit in to see if I fit? I'm 6'3" and need to know if I have to cut off part of my legs to get in to the car.
Thanks John Hawkins St. Helena |
Just sit in any ERA. I think the interior is the same on them all.

The VW Bug style floor mounted pedals cut me off. I'm 6'2.

I think ERA can lengthen the footboxes; there have been some large men that have found a fit in an ERA. I'm 6'0 and have no issues with my standard sized ERA FIA.
I did sit in a Unique Cobra once that my knees did not fit in. |
Go here: 427 Frequently Asked Questions and scroll about half way down until you see a pic of a strikingly handsome older man in his ERA car.

Thanks all and particularly Pat T - that gives me some hope. Given the size of the bellhousing and the rearward location of the engine in the car (resulting in a wide transmission tunnel), are the pedals offset a lot to the left?

Hi John,
First off, welcome to the club! You are welcome to sit in my ERA FIA, I am located in the south bay area. I am 6’-4” and fit quite nicely in my FIA with the help from the fine folks at ERA. Some of the modifications were: - Foot pedals moved as far forward as possible. - Went with leather 427 seats with modified foam in the cushion so I sit lower in the car. - The dash is a bit shorter than the originals, so I can get my legs under it. The drop dash in a slab side, may be an issue for taller drivers. - The roll bar is slightly taller. Similar to Pat’s experience, I also flew out to ERA for a test fit. I spent a few days there looking around and chatting with Peter, Bob and crew. It was a wonderful experience and they came up with a great plan. I have been very happy with the car. Let me know if you want to get together and we can set something up. - Tim |

Excellent, thanks for the info and the photo. Probably 20 years ago I sat in an unknown-make 427 and found all the pedals so far offset to the left that it was uncomfortable to sit more than a few seconds - like driving sideways.
And Pat, thanks for the kind offer to sit in your car - I will see if I can pry myself out of the North bay. John |
Hi John,
Sent you a PM to set up a test sit. - Tim |
