Engine Re-Work

Have finally reached the point where I want to up the ponies in my car. Currently have a 351W crate motor from the Ford SVO facility in my Superformance. Not sure I want to do any machining, so what recommendations do you have for heads, ignition, intake manifold, carb, exhaust manifold, cam etc. Want to get up to 450+ hp

I have a 392 from Ford. I'm thinking about going with the AFR heads. Good for another 75hp. I copyed the following from another thread. (And if you swap heads only (to AFR 185) you get an extra 75 HP. See the article reprint with "75 HP" in the title at

If you want to get 450 real hp out of a 351, there are two ways to go about it. You can spend quite a lot of money on a stroker motor (there are no bolt ons that will give you 100 hp, forget it) or you can supercharge the engine. Personally, I like supercharging as it does not require constant tuning once it is set up. It is also a lot cheaper, probably no more than $5000- if you do some of the work. I installed one myself on a Mustang for under $3000- and got a giant increase in power with no apparent longevity problems.... Talk to Gary about the cost of his engine, I believe he has just under 500 hp.......

cheers

Speed costs money! How fast do you want to go? All the Ford Cup guys use 351W based motors. 800HP - I like it>

Easy, new heads and a cam to match them.
