SB100 and Demon carbs
 

Many thanks to those who provided me with all the helpful advice regarding SB 100. Things went slowly but smoothly during my DMV visit on 5/27/03 and just before five p.m. I was able to get my cobra registered (#452/500)!

Now I just need to get the ball rolling since they gave me 60 days to get all the required CHP and BAR inspections. My 427 is still humbly sitting on a stand, but all the parts are almost here. I can't wait to hear that motor come to life!!

By the way, just in case any of you recently purchased a road demon jr........be careful! I placed my order with Summit last week for a pair of them and the following day I had a phone message stating that the Barry Grant Technicians were coming to inspect all their carbs and they wouldn't sell them until the inspections were complete. The guy stated that the screws holding the butterflies to the throttle shafts were getting loose.

Sounds like a pretty serious problem.......especially if they were to fall out! OUCH!! I'm supposed to call Summit and check back with them. The shipping verification dept. of Summit showed the carbs as "unavailable" when I last spoke to them a week ago. I'm still unsure if this is a common problem with all their Demon carbs or just the Road Demon Jr. series. I'll keep you posted as events happen.:confused:

how are you going to connect the Demon carbs?? Does BG do a linkage or did you build a custom piece?

Why 60 days?.. I got #006 on Jan 1 and there was no time limit specified.. My car was already on the road, Maybe that was it.

I called Summit today and the Road Demon Jr.'s were available for release so I ordered them. The people I spoke with today were pretty clue less about the whole incident. Rest assured that we will be doing our own inspections before they sit on the motor!!

Michael---- We still haven't finalized how the fuel sytem will be entering the carbs. One option is to custom bend the fuel lines out of stainless steel tubing from the regulator to the carbs. The other idea is to use a fuel log. We still have a lot of work ahead of us before making that final decision. The linkage will be purchased by my buddy from a company that furnishes these pieces to others. I can't remember the name of that company right now, but I'll find out for you.

As for the deadline, I was given my windshield tag with the large number "7" indicating the month the temp. reg expires. At the same time, the DMV clerk verbally told me that I had 60 days. Did you use SB 100 or the other SB for previously registered cars? The short time period is to allow you the means to get your car through the necessary inspections. I guess if you built it and drove it around public streets to "get the bugs worked out" before registering it through SB 100 you would be in violation of the law. I'm surprised that DMV doesn't require proof of insurance during the time the car is being driven around getting its inspections (not that I'm complaining!) as part of their checklist.

I am referring to the linkage.. the Demon carbs do not work with a standard Ford / Holley linkage assembly.. I'm wondering what you found that will work.

I take it from the reply you haven't gotten to that point yet. it isn't a big deal to fab a linkage but the way the way the demons are shaped precludes going under the float bowl with a standard sized crossover rod.. using a smaller rod is problematic given it will flex. It would be possible to grind enough clearance into the intake and use a modified bracket.. I just couldn't do it to an original manifold.

Two weeks and no word. Let me know how this works out, I tried this combination but didn't want the linkage to look like I fabricated it.

The linkage kit I will be using on Gene's motor is from Blower Drive Service (BDS). The kit designed for a blower with inline carbs ($99.00) gives you enough pieces to build a non-progressive linkage for rearward facing Holley or Demon Carbs by just doing some minor cutting and threading.
