Ford Engine Builder
Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Tom Lucas of FE Specialties. If you are looking for a maticulous, precise, engine builder here locally in the Northern California area, I'm your man. I have been involved in FE and other performance Ford engines since 1975. I got my start with a Pro Gas racer, Wayne Torkelson, who used to race a 427 SOHC in a 57 T-Bird. He ran high 8's back in the mid 70's in a 2800lb car!!! As the name implies, I specialize in FE motors, but build just about any performance Ford engine you can think of. From nice roller retrofited 289s to stroker 575s. I average about 20% more horsepower than your average builder, mainly because I incorporate the latest technology into my engine assemblies!!! I'm not the cheapest guy in town, but not excessive either. Please give me a call for referrals and just to get to know me. Thanks for your time!! Seems to me I saw a recent post that somebody was looking for a good FE or 427/428 engine guy in Northern Calif. I don't recall the exact details but I imagine if you go back about a week or so you will find the post.

Hey Tom,
Good to see ya popped your head out of the shop for a few minutes to say hello to us. I heard Bob's Unique is over at your place getting that nifty Shelby dual carb intake setup and the new heads put on with those trick step adapters he found. Bob called me last night to tell me that he is excited about it, and commented on that custom fuel log, lines, and regulator setup you are custom making for him. Sounds Great. I know he can't wait to see it. Me too! :) |
I had the pleasure of talking to Tom today and he most definately a "FE specialist" We had a great talk about the subtle differences and techniques it takes to build a hard running FE. I look forward to working with him in the future.

This is my first post on this site and I can't think of a better way to start by giving a big thanks to Tom Lucas for solving my engine problems. I have a SPF with a 428 fe that was drinking oil more than gas. While other mechanics tried to guess at the problem, Tom quickly identified the issue ( the oil return wholes in the aluminum heads were too small causing oil to be sucked in with the gas). One quick trip to Tom's in Sacramento, and larger holes in my aluminum heads have made this new Cobra owner a delighted customer. Tom has my vote, not only as a good guy, but very experienced with fe engines. I am not embarassed to say that I have no mechanical abilities at all. I couldn't tell you the difference between a float and a power valve. However, I do have a new respect for all of you out there that understand how various engines work, and can build the most beautiful sounding machines from a pile of gears, iron, and wire. VERY EMPRESSIVE...my hats off to you and your capabilities. |
