Windshield help?
Windshield help?
I have an Austin Healy replica that the windshield was busted out by vandals on the street. It is simple flat windshield no curves lexan would be fine but I do not feel comfortable doing it myself. I am in San Francisco. Sincerely, Bryan |
Bryan,
Don't be intimidated windshield replacement is a pretty simple process. Do a search on "windshield" you'll find a step be step process that I placed a while ago. If you can trace the pattern of the inside of your windshield frame, add 1/4" border all the way around for the glass (plastic) to fit in the frame and take your pattern to a plastics shop (I used TAP). Check with your local TAP Plastics they may work with you and make the replacement if you take the frame in. (Scratch resistant Lexan in a size suitable for a windshield ran me about $120 acouple of years ago and I did all of the cutting) Good Luck, MIke "monster" |

Monster,
Thanks for the advice. However, I do not own any tools, a garage, or have any mechanical experience. I'm looking for someone who would do the work, if the price is not unreasonable I would be happy to pay. Sincerely, Bryan A. |
Any auto glass windshield shop should be able to do this. Some even come to your facility in a little truck, and do it in your home or office parking lot. If locating a replacement windshield is a problem, try europaspares.com.

WIndshield
Thanks for the help.
However , most windshield repair places do not custom cut auto glass. This is does not have an Austin Healy windshield that any place can do it has to be custom cut for the car. There is only one place in San Francisco that said they are capable of doing it but $500 dollars is way out of my budget, either lexan or glass but either way it must be custom cut. Thanks, Bryan A. |

Windshield help..
Jon,
Thanks for the info. I went to the Tap website and did a lexan search and the only lexan result were some lexan shelving clips.. I'm looking for someone in the Bay area who can do the work as I do not have tools and a comfort level to do it myself. Sincerely, Bryan A. |
