Shelby tried and failed to break this barrier, failed even with the Daytona Coupe, off of which the Dodge Viper is a sneak rip off, but there is a way. In the Air Force it is called R.A.K.O. - rocket assisted takeoff. Might be a cost effective way to reach 200 and beyond ....

Dick Smith's car is a Roadster #198 and I beleive still driven by him. I know it can be seen at major Shelby shows.

Record was set at Daytona speedway.:rolleyes:

Just so you know...the Cobra, aerodynamically is the equivalent to this:

That is why the Daytona Coupe was created. Not sure if that car ever hit 200 either.

The Dick Smith car is actively raced, I've seen it many times including Laguna Seca this past year where it lost an engine.
It has unique bumpers, it's a special car.
