Newbie, I know nothing!
I spent the last 6 years enjoying my 1999 550 Maranello. I was the original owner and put 25,000 miles on it, some club track events and hillclimbs, but mostly highway miles. It's now up for sale and I ultimately want a new Ford GT. While I wait for the crazyness to go away on pricing, I want to satisfy my lifelong lust for a Cobra. I intend to keep it a just few years and drive it regularly and go to track events. Then I want to sell it without loosing alot of $$$. I live in the Bay Area so I thought I'd ask you folks for some help. With all the combinations of manufacturers, engines, etc., I really don't know where to begin to figure out what to get. Here's my requirements:
1. California legal 2. Easy to sell- high demand replica brand 3. High demand engine spec. 4. Great handling- as good as a replica gets It doesn't have to be new, and my price range is not fixed....... What would you buy? |

Monster Mike is right. Come to breakfast on any Saturday morning to see a wide variety of cars (well ok, if it is raining then only Chuck comes in the red car) to look at and ask questions of the owners. You mentioned you were interested in open track, we have a member who wrecked his car and was very seriously injured at the track. There is essentially no protection in this car. Also, lots of tracks have noise limits that were probably not an issue with your Maranello but for sure will be in a Cobra. It can be done (short shifting etc.) but it is not the fast way around the track. Talk to Terry, he has a street car and a track car and can help. Come to breakfast and you can be President of the club. |
4pipes: Since you admit to knowing nothing, you'll fit right in here :LOL:. Actually, this is a great forum and some of these folks know a lot about Cobras. I hope you aren't in a hurry; take your time before rushing out and making a mistake. The Saturday morning breakfast in Dublin is a great way to get to know some of the guys and see some interesting machinery close up. The first Saturday in the month in Mt. View is also good if that location suits you.
Do check out the Cobra Country site so you can see a number of machines of various sizes, shapes and colors. While some of us like our replicas to be close to the originals, some people have other ideas. Different strokes, etc. While you are on that site I strongly suggest you order "The Complete Guide to Cobra Replicas (All-New Fourth Edition)" by Curt Scott. It will give you a lot of information on the good, bad and ugly of the replica world. When you get the time, check out some of the posts here: often informational, if not amusing. ;) Rich |

Just to reinforce the BACC Breakfast at Athen’s Burger, usually about 25+ Cobras, weather permitting, and a few other interesting cars. One of our Presidents (we’re all Presidents) got delivery of a Ford GT recently. You can get some first hand information. Again, stop by for breakfast.
