Shelby and Superformance

I have been saying for years that Shelby and Superformance were natural partners. I hope this exclusive agreement works out for everyone.

What agreement? I can't believe a successful company like SPF would in any way get involved with CS. Almost everyone who has, has regretted it. What do they need CS for?

Excaliber 02-04-2005 12:34 AM

Rick 427 may be onto something! :D

Here is a link to the new agreement. Mark

Interesting part of the statement regarding CS agreeing to allow SPF to replicate "shapes". If SPF changes their roadster body to be accurate replica of original, what would that do to the value of the current roadster? They would in effect create a different "class" of replica.

Guppiedriver 02-04-2005 02:18 PM

I can't imagine that SPF would change the "shape" of any of their cars. That costs big bucks to do and they already have a winner. I'll bet the whole deal has to do with "licencing" and what they can call it.

Where are the molds etc. for the Shelby?

BANDIT 1 02-23-2005 10:03 AM

It is real simple, Superformance should continue building it's modern version of the Cobra and they should become the fiberglass CSX builder for the Shelby continuation series Cobra's.

People like myself will get a modern version of a Shelby Cobra that looks 95% (guess) accurate and people that want a new CSX Shelby Cobra (and receive the car in their lifetime) will get a quality built Shelby Cobra (manufactured by Superformance).

HST has a "set" of molds for the glass Shelbys, where the bodies are currently being made. I wonder if those molds came from Las Vagas where the bodies USED to be made? I suppose one could speculate that the current HST molds could be then be shipped to SPF.

...man this whole post is a stretch at best, speculation runs rampant, rumors are everywhere, paranoia strikes deep! :D

"The companies have also put into place the framework whereby the Shelby organization can expand its operations by making authentic Shelby Cobra products available to Superformance's dealer network in the US.

Imagine this scenario: Guy walks onto a Dynamic Motorsports lot, and looks over various Cobra. A salesman approaches.

"Lookin' for a Cobra?"

"Why yes, I am. These cars look great, but what's the difference between this one here and that one over there?" gesturing toward first a SPF, then a fiberglass SAI.

"Well, that one over there is a Superformance Cobra. You'll notice the little skirt there on the rear of the front fender, and that the rear fender well comes down a little lower. You'll also notice the pipes sitting up a little higher, for trailer clearance. Built in South Africa, and shipped here complete, less engine and transmission. Uses the Ford Thunderbird independent rear suspension. Less engine and transmission it retails for $40k"

"That one over there is a Shelby American Cobra, the original manufacturer of the Cobra. It's fiberglass, too, but it's shaped and designed just like the originals from the 60's which were aluminum. It has thicker tubes for frame rails, and updated brakes, but everything else is pretty much just like the originals. We can also get this in an aluminum body. Comes with a continuation series serial number of CSX4000, and Mr. Carroll Shelby signs the MSO himself."

"Wow! How much does THAT one go for?"

"In fiberglass? Painted? Less engine and transmission? $40k."

"So, they're the same price?"

"Yup."

"And that one has a body that is identical to the original?"

"Yup."

"And, uh, some liberties were taken with the body shape on the other one?

"Yup."

"Huh..."

Oops, did I just like a match?

Turk 02-23-2005 02:29 PM

No.

Dangerous Doug 02-23-2005 07:39 PM

If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Where's all that Shelby/SPF piss and vinegar I've grown so accustomed to here on ClubCobra? Have the fences truely been mended?

thorconstr 02-24-2005 04:01 AM

No, Shelby has always been on the shady side and has a problem with the truth. Superperformance should start looking for a good Proctologist, they are going to need one.

sambrozy 02-24-2005 10:06 AM

If I were Price and you wanted a Shelby vs. an SPF it will cost you ten k more. You're choice.

gary289fia 02-24-2005 11:45 PM

Follow the money. Lots of activity on one of Shelby's legal entities - CSBI. Went from $5.00 to $.05 to $.90 in recent trading. A nickel to almost a buck in a week or so with this news. But it does make sense if CS can arrange a timely, cost effective, quality product with assistance from SPF.
