Greg,
This is very interesting information. Can you tell us any more about the 417 engine that set the high number? Paul |
Very good numbers for those "Little" windsors. I knew I should have built a stroker.
later dennis |
Paul...that was my car with a 418W stroker, built by Neil Ruegsegger in Danville, CA. The motor has Edelbrock Vic Jr heads and intake, ported, polished, port and gasket matched and flowed on Neil's flow bench. CR is 10.83:1, Holley 850 modified by Jet Performance. Cam is a hydraulic roller with Crane shaft mounted roller rockers. .565 lift on intake at 232 duration and .552 on the exhaust at 242 duration on 110 degree lobe centers. Heads were flowed to 303 cfm at .550 intake valve lift for maximum velocity and cfm.
Other than that, the rest of the horsepower came from Neil's drive for perfection during design, machine work, perfect balancing of all the rotating assembly, flywheel and clutch included, not to mention his assembly procedures. No stone left unturned with Neil. By the way, the motor was still making HP at 6k rpm, but since it only has 400 miles on it, we errored on the side of safety here and waved the motor off at 6k. Is this guy a waxer or a tuner?
2 Attachment(s)
Bill and Neal have done wonders with his car. Attached are photos of Bill's car with Ted the tuner at the wheel and Bill checking out details (in one of them). Be sure to note how the car glistens - it looks as clean as it sounds!
Sorry for the delay in posting - still trying to figure this digital picture thing out. TB |
Chris, Thats a great table. It's good to see all the info in one place.
|
Bill,
Thanks for the story. That's very inspiring! Paul |
Yeah I would certainly raise the mains a step or two and turn in your A/F screws.
|
I should have went. Last time I dynoed I made 513 rwhp & 513 rwtq.
I miss all the good stuff. |
Did anyone go back and have Ted do any tuning? Now that I've got some miles on my engine I want to get it chassis tuned. Ted seemed like a good guy and knowledgable, but I just wanted to see if anyone had him do any work. If not any other recommendations on a place to go? preferrably in the south bay but I'd go further if there was a strong recommendation. Thanks,
Daryl |
Carbureted?
If it's carbureted, I'd call Joe Testa at Mustang Ranch. 408-247-9005 x12
Dynojet 248, plenty of experience, I personally tuned over 1500 cars through his shop. Not fancy, not immaculate, not incredibly cheap, but they are a very good resource and have plenty of carb/dyno experience. If it's EFI, that's harder. |
Thanks Bryon, it's a single 4 barrel, I'll give the guys at Mustang Ranch a call.
Daryl |
Well I spent the morning over at Mustang Ranch. Great bunch of guys, thanks Byron for the recommendation.
My motor is a Roush 427W with dual plane manifold and a 4bbl. Motor was 531hp and 525tq on the engine stand at Roush. Final numbers at the wheels after rejetting 422hp and 439tq. The AF was almost spot on above 4k RPM when we started but it was lean below that. After some tuning by Joe it's running much better, and picked up 20ft-lbs of torque. Definetely not cheap, but I'm very glad to know the motor is safe and no longer lean. Interestingly the numbers I got seem a lot lower than Scott Performance Dastek Dyno, but very much in line with the traditional 20% loss formula. In any case if anyone else is looking to have their car tuned on the chassis dyno these guys seemed very knowledgable. Daryl |
Daryl,
I'm curious, Tom and eds motors are also Roush 427w motors and were around 550hp on the stand. according to those numbers you are where you should be as they were around 460 at the wheels. I was 540 0n the stand and 427 at the wheels. Greg |
Greg,
Have you been hiding at the Historics?:3DSMILE:I am still thinking about that A/F meter. Maybe I should but it then rent it out. :3DSMILE: Scott |
Yes I have been!! Decided to stay a couple extra nights at the beach :MECOOL: . Let me know, I'll half it with you.
|
Scott,
Are you thinking about an LM-1 A/F meter? I have had mine for a while.......nothing like logging real time A/F numbers with real time driving situations. Let me know if you have any questions. curtis |
Curtis,
YES!!! LM-1. Where did you weld the bung and do you download recorded sessions?. Does it come with all the software for the computer? What is the difference between Lamda and A/F?. Thinking of buying one to be able to re-jet with more accuracy. Thanks, Greg |
Wideband meters
You guys know there's a ton of wideband meters out there now, right?
Innovate, FJO, Dynojet...to name a few. Dynojet has an actual analog gauge; which is nice...doesn't look quite as out of place in a permanent installation. |
Greg,
Here is the link: http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/ Visit the forum and read, read, read. I did not weld a bung because I got the tail pipe clamp. Yes it comes with all the software and manuals on a CD pluse all firmware updates are online. This thing data logs 44min a then analized in a logworks program. I'm at breakfast in Dublin tomorrow and then will do some LM-1 work after with another president. curtis |
I really have to ask. What is the rate for the time and support over at Mustang Ranch? What does a run cost including the support. Also, I'm trying to remember, what's the name of the street that it's next to. Thanks, Scott
