Clear Bra or 3M shield stuff
Whatever name you call this stuff,
Does anyone know of a place in the San Jose area that could install and do a good job on my SPF? I've already picked up several rock chips under the nose :CRY: While I'm asking does anyone have a recommendation on a product they like better? I did the the stone guards on the rear fenders and they are doing their job nicely. Thanks, Daryl |
I've seen carbon fiber embedded in the fiberglass on an FFR. That's what I hope to do on my ERA (yet, unfinished).

The 3m stuff works, most of the guys in Arizona use it. There are companies that install it, I think they are listed on the 3M website.... it is difficult to install because of the compound curves so you need to get someone to do it for you. It is about $300- here , so figure about $1500- in the Bay Area...

I looked into this a while back. I found three companies here in the Bay Area. One of the guys comes to your place and installs it. Pro Trim 978-2188, C.S. Specialties 476-3332, and South Bay Trim 294-4133. I never did it, so I can't comment on them. Know I regret it after the Reno trip. I think Ted at Scott Performance did one or two. You can call him at 988-2233. I am sure you can even set up a dyno run while you are on the phone with him Scott |

I've been meaning to go visit Ted's dyno anyway. If he can do it all the better, and I too am wishing I had done this before WSCB :CRY: freaking rocks. |

Hi Guys,
I was thinking of putting it on spf#1723 so I called teds shop. $900.00 dollars.....Anyone have smelling salt:D. I had pro trim come out today to give me an estimate. Real nice guys and they do it at your house!. They have done a few cobras. They will call me tomorrow with the estimate. Will keep you informed. Greg |

Pro Trim came in at $500.00 at your house. I guess not to bad considering the basic "KIT" is $350 from invincashield. This is for two guys two hours to install. I would'nt try it with all the curves we have. Also includes the door jambs and thresholds!

If memory serves someone is So Cal was making a Mylar "bra" for Superformance.Wasn't cheap.But it wasn't $900.00 either.

Use a nudge bar. A bra on a Cobra just doesn't make it. Maybe just some clear mylar...like a tear-off. Don't put one of those wuss things on your Cobra! It's too un-Cobra like.

ZO you live in a place where it rains almost weekly. When it doesn't rain much, like here where it has only rained three times since the 1st of October 2005, you have a lot of stuff on the roads. Take a look what 2500 miles of driving in Arizona does - this car had not a mark when I moved here from Pleasanton. I am getting a repaint this summer and it is a lot more cash-ola than the helicopter tape bra thing. The bra is almost invisible by the way, methinks you are picturing one of those hideous black rubber things...

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking along the lines of those things that you see taped on the Nissans & Mazdas. The stuff you're talking about may be good, as your car probably gets sandblasted regularly. When I read "bra"... The nudge bar does help protect the edges around the grill opening. |
Spray-on Magic Stuff
Anyone know what the name of the clear spray-on magic rock-guard stuff they put on the bottom 8" of the toyota trucks? Go look at one closely; the bottom 8" is sprayed with a thick clear coat of some kind. I saw this on a truck that had seen a lot of miles and anywhere rocks hit this stuff it leaves almost no mark. Just above the spray line, rock chips are normal size. It appears to work very well; and is invisible.

I don't know of any "clear" spray-on stuff, but I've used this "Spray-on protection bra" from Griot's Garage on the wife's BMW when we take it on long trips and it works like a charm. www.griotsgarage.com/search.jsp?searchtext=20264 This is a "temporary" bra and is excellent for use during trips (like driving to Ohio for the London show!). Neat thing about this stuff is, once the trip is over, you simply peel it off.
I have the Invinca Shield on the Cobra and it's great. It has saved me a lot of $$$ on paint! I will say however, a section of mine started to yellow (even though it's guaranteed not to). I called them about it and they sent me the front sections at no charge............but I'm too chicken to take the old section off (I've heard horror stories about paint peeling off with it!). So far, I'm content to live with it the way it is since you only notice it if you're really looking for it (and you only see it where the white stripes are - not the blue sections of the car), but if it gets any worse, I may have to heat it up and give it a try. Has anyone here had any success getting this stuff to come off? |
