Autocrossing
I missed Snake and Eggs last Saturday because I attended an SCCA practice autocross at Candlestick Park. The most fun I've had in my Cobra yet. They started out with relatively short, simple courses and ended up with one long, high speed event in mid-afternoon (1 1/2 minutes long). Got three laps on that one before I eyeballed my gas gauge and realized a refill was in order. I used my BF Badrich T/A street tires to see how far I could push them and they weren't nearly as bad as I expected. Not that I would call them a high performance tire, mind you. But I do drive with them on the street and I now feel more comfortable pushing them *a little.*
If any of you don't feel comfortable enough while driving your Cobra, try running a couple of autocrosses. You will learn to drive better and have a great time to boot. Now if we could just get someone with a contact with a school, or company with enough room to run an autocross, I'll bet we could get enough of us together to have a fun event. How many of us would be interested in such an activity? The local Corvette clubs do this regularly. Why let them have all the fun? :p Rich |
Rich, I've done it off and on for nearly 30 years...it is huge fun and a great way to know your car. Made my two oldest daughters do it before I'd sign off on them getting their permanent license, and the third daughter will be doing it this summer.
Watch out though...it's extremely addictive. ;) |
Hey Badrich, you can do it 6 more times this year with the NorCal Shelby Club:http://norcal-saac.org/events/marina.htm

There is a hi speed Auto X this weekend Sat & Sun 6/10 & 6/11 at the old Castle AFB in Atwater, near Merced. They generally have a large turnout of vintage Corvettes. |
