When you feel a little vibration...
When I took the beast out a couple of weeks ago I felt a little vibration when I accelerated hard. So I took it easy driving home, got busy and didn't get around to checking it out right away. So imagine my embarrassment :o when on my way to snake and eggs at Baji's Saturday the vibration started in while I was just cruizing along on Highway 85. I slowed down and the vibration went away as I got on to the El Camino. I stopped at a light and when I slowly let out my clutch, instead of moving forward, all I heard was a loud THUNK! Rattle, rattle. I immediately jumped out and pushed my machine to the side of the road, trying not to get run over. Well, to make a long story short, my rear U-joint broke and I missed breakfast. I called Baji's and got George to bring me over a double latte before the AAA flat bedded me home. Made me feel better.
The moral: listen to your machine when it tries to communicate with you. I have learned my lesson. :p Rich |
Hey Rich. From all the horror stories I've read on SCOF about driveline/U joint failures, consider yourself lucky that it failed when it did! Best of luck.

The double latte had to be from Starbucks...Rich, you ready to replace the U-joints?!! George

You are right, Bill, the U-joint could've let loose up in the Santa Cruz Mountains or on the Coast Highway in Sonoma County.
Thanks again, George, for the latte. While I would've preferred Peet's, ;) it still tasted great, and made me feel less sorry for myself. I'm thinkin' about replacing the joint next week. I'll let you know when so you can bring the beer. Rich |
