Either CA wants more money for registration, or now they want to go after him cause he has 2 Vins for the same car.

Mikee please post or PM the results/resolution. A friend of mine has a car that was done through TU by the previous owner and wants to go SB100 with it. He paid all of his taxes and fees but is a bit nervous about getting in line next month for the SB100 number.

acmikee,
Any news you can share now?

Semper Fi, TU is a company called Titles Unlimited. Don't even know if they are still in business, however they were supplying to individuals, that I would say were less than scrupulous, titles for Cobras listing them as 1965 Fords and probably other things. I had dealings with them many years ago for vehicles that had lost titles and they were fine. Now then the big deal as I understand it is that because of the way they were titled, the poor republic of Kalifornia didn't get the revenue they somehow felt they deserved. There have been many issues in regards to it and a quick search for TU or Titles Unlimited here will get you more posts than you can read in a reasonable time. I thought it had passed by when the owner of TU was sentenced and fined, but it apparently is still going on with the fine bureaucrats on the left coast.

Woodz the problem is that people would use TU to register the car out of state with a fake VIN and then would re-register the car in CA using a bill of sale and out of state fraudulant title that showed they payed 10K for the car instead of the 50-60K it cost to build it. It's called fraud.
You can complain about they way they are going about it but the state got screwed out of taxes owed.
If you think what the state is doing is wrong, try reporting to the IRS that you only made 10K this year and see if they get upset about it?

I looked at TU's info, they specifically stated that they DID NOT do "kit" cars. If they went to jail, they was Shanghyde, or shulda had better laywers, (or really was doin' kit cars, wink, wink)

I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought that things were done in a straight forward manner, just that years ago when I had used TU to get a lost title it was a solution for a then unavailable service. I DID mean to imply that I believe that all levels of Govt. are greedy Ba$tard$ that want to milk the individual of their earned monies to waste in what ever they can find. I think we went into debt, Nationally, 100 million dollars in the time it took me to type that.

In 2001 on their web site as well as their brochures, they stated under "Exotic Cars" quote..."Corvettes, Cobra's "kit cars" also...Pre 1975-$200, 1975-1985-$375."
