Ouch!!

I was opening the hood of my car after a drive on Sunday and my ankle barely hit the pipe....instant blister the size of a half dollar.

I'd been so carefull...first bite had to come sooner or later.

I was thinking of an idea to keep my wife from burning her legs.. I know better and if I burn myself... that's my stupidity. But for her, it's not exactly something one would remind herself to be sure to avoid. So here's what I was thinking about doing for her...

Take a good thick piece of leather about the width of the door, punch 2 holes in it and tie it off to the bottom of the seat. Make it long enough to cover the pipe. When the car is in motion, it gets tucked in beside the seat. Then it's time to get out, just drape it over the pipe and crawl out. It still might be warm, but it's not going to burn you. Then you just flip it back in beside the seat and continue on with business. Get the idea? Think it'll work? Heck, you could even get a cobra emblem branded into the leather to dress it up a bit!

I Had An Idea Of Taking A Piece Of Welding Blanket And For It Also To The Pipes This Will Hold Alot Of Heat And It Would Remain Under The Blanket The Leather Will Transfer To Much Heat And You Still Will Burn

Devil in the details...

The car is barely roadworthy at this point.

First I had a hell of a time taming the 160lb/hr injectors. I've mastered that now, but it was no easy task. I probably should have given up long ago; but it became a matter of principle.

Then, I had a nasty gremlin that would leave me stranded after about 5 minutes of run time usually...sometimes 7, sometimes 10... Just enough that you could get to an inconvenient uphill ramp with no shoulder...no fun. That turned out to be some weird combination of fuel pump and controller. When the pump/controller combo warmed up a bit, it started fluctuations in the fuel pressure; which is a big no-no with an injector this big. That would lead to either a no-start condition or fouling of the plugs; seemingly at random.

The last 30 minute drive with the car was problem free. A perfect 14.7:1 Air/fuel ratio at cruise, good street manners, nice tan plugs with good heat indication...I think I'm there and ready to put the dash back together. Most of it is currently sprawled out on the passengers side of the cockpit for debugging purposes.

And then there's the matter of time...not enough of it. I've been taking contract jobs related to my daytime career (Electronics) and it's been soaking up a lot of time. But, at the same time it feeds the Cobra expense account, so it's all good.

Patience...patience...but yes, when it's running, it's pretty fantastic!
