Carmel Concours is Allowing Replica Cobra's

I just got an e-mail from the people running the Carmel Concours which happens during car week on the Monterey Peninsula. This is when the Monterey Historic Races and the Pebble Beach Concours all happen. This is the first time the Carmel Concours is allowing replica Cobras and GT-40's to be part of the show. It is held during the early part of car week and they close off Ocean Ave. in downtown Carmel just for the cars. Check out their web Site at carmelconcours.com Even though the deadline was in May, they are still taking Applications for Heritage and Dream cars. That us! The entry fee is a tax deductable donation to the Carmel Foundation. They can take 18 cars, so get your entry in early if you want to participate in this world calss event. It is during the week, so working folks need to take the day off. Please e-mail me if interested. I need to let the organizer know if we can get together 18 cars. mikeykap@comcast.net

Great to hear!
The drive is a bit too far for me however replicas are worthy of recognition to. It will only make for a better day.

My Cobra isn't ready to show, but I'd like to attend the event. What are the dates?

Interesting. When I was down there recently in Carmel and Monterey scoping out and finalizing our base location for CH1, a fellow at the local auto memorobilia shop there was chatting with me about WSCB, and the replica Cobras, Daytonas, GT40s. he runs a few shows from time to time there in Carmel and Monterey and Pacific Grove. He asked me a bit about my shirt from WSCB. I told him a bit about CH1 coming up in September 2008. He mentioned something about wanting to get a group of Cobras over to his place for a visit on Saturday, during Concours week. Maybe it was the same guy. Anyhow, funny how it goes for years how many people looked down on replica Cobras. Now they can't escape them! Hahahahaha. Looks like they got something put together. That's great.

Well, they'll be seeing even more Cobras come streaming through there and down Highway 1 again in late September too. :D

Ch1?

Duane - What is the latest on CH1? Hopefully it is not on the same weekend as Snakes to the Lake (Sept 21st). Since you referenced CH1 in this post, are you ready to make an announcement (or have I missed it)?

Sounds like a great event ... have been to the Historic races for many years, even remember seeing a lot of the same cars raced for real, back in the day! Great to see such interest in replica Cobras. The whole week is filled with lots of car related activities.

I don't have my engine ready, but I will go the event on Monday!

Hi Tom,
The CH1 2008 get-together (prototype) is Sept. 25,26,27. Send me a PM so I can add you to the list, if you can make it for sure. Finalized the location today near Monterey and waiting for the group code so people can reserve rooms in the block. Scored one of the best weather weekends of the year, and the location is 4-star, and non-snooty. :D

Duane
I don't think I have enough room at my house for all of you. Your were talking about my 4 star non-snotty house right? **)

Let me know what the particulars are so i can get together with you all. I am in Pebble Beach so i can meet you somewhere before you get into town.

Please e-mail me if you are commiting to the Carmel concourse so i can have spaces reserved.

Sounds like a great Concours! But the way I read it, the $200 entry fee is NOT tax deductable to the Carmel Foundation. Plus, the Heritage Avenue Exhibit cars are NOT judged (meaning no Major or Class awards).

SF_SN888KE 06-26-2008 02:14 PM

Sounds great! Looks like the Heritage Avenue Exhibit is on Tuesday and Not eligible for Major or Class Awards ... we pay to show
OK, count me in too! What's $200 compared to 10 mpg and rubbing elbows with Clint?
Hum, looking at last year's pics, think I better wear a shirt and jacket and not the tee shirt.

FFRCobraMike 06-26-2008 10:53 PM

I checked with one of the organizers today. The entry fee is definately tax deductible as it goes to Carmel Foundation wich is a charity. He was not positive about awards but he thought they were going to give some for the Heritage class. He also said that with all the freebies and consessions, that the $200 will be completly offset. We need 18 cars, real or replica so let me know soon who is going.

Mike

SF_SN888KE 06-27-2008 12:45 PM

Mike, Chekcing with the girl friend, but 99% sure will be going. I assume we just complete the application and send in or should we wait for your OK?

FFRCobraMike 06-27-2008 11:07 PM

Well the president of my car club called this morning. He was the one that told me that the replica Cobras were allwed and to spread it around as well as the guy whou I was to inform of the amount of cars that were going. Apparently he screwed up. He misunderstood the organizer when he said he would allow replica Cobra's. The organizer wanted the club to buy 18 -22 of the spaces in the Heritage block and then whatever cars were brought were OK. So I apologize profusly and the President of the Pebble Beach Sports Car Club said he will take the heat for the mistake, so if anyone wants his number, I will be glad to supply it. On the off chance that anyone wants to join the club, it is $25 a year and you do not have to attend meetings. They are deciding on Monday if they will take the spaces. If they do, they are talking about subsidising part of the entry fee for each car. So please hold off on any further applications and any of you that already sent one in will get a refund from the organizer.

Sorry again, but I was only spreading around what i was told.

Mike
