I have used FedEx Custom Critical Passport Auto Transport a couple of times now with no incidents. They are not the cheapest game in town, but reliability is high. You can get an on-line quote here: http://passport.fedex.com/

For coast to coast I prefer Intercity. www.intercitylines.com

No, I just checked both web sites and Intercity is only a $1,000 cheaper than Passport for a coast-to-coast trip, not twice as cheap....

Intercity has a stellar reputation, especially with the Porsche crowd.

If someone would want a single enclosed hauler, there's a father (long haul) and son (short haul) team out of Concord, CA that I would recommend. The son hauled my Kirkham within the Bay Area limits.

I have had excellent results with Horseless Carriage Company out of Patterson, NJ. If you are comparing rates, check them as well.

The internals of these trucks are pretty cool how they pick your car up off the ground and take them in. Short of wrecking the truck, or somehow dropping the car off the lift, aren't they all pretty similar (excluding price, of course)?

As a business owner that relies on the services of these companies... I can say without question there is a BIG difference. Intercity is one of the few that shows up when they say they will, delivers when they say they will, give prompt responses to any communications, have consistent clean and modern equipment, actually put the white gloves on etc.

If you ship a lot of cars (as Bill has done) you learn these things.

And I don't know about you, but $1,000 cheaper is pretty big to me

patrickt 10-28-2008 12:13 PM

I agree with you. I wonder why Passport is so much more expensive? They also put gloves on, etc. but I would rather save the dough.

Hi Steve,

I've never used a transport service, however... I've spent time in Pebble Beach during "car weekend" over the past few years, and I've seen a lot of Intercity trailers there. I'm sure those who transport their cars to PB in August are very, very picky about who does the transporting.

Just passing along an observation...

Good luck,
Randy...

Has anyone here had a particularly bad experience with a transport service?

Yes. Most of the bad experiences have gone out of business though.

I can tell you Reliable is a nightmare. I don't know how they stay in business.
