Thanks LudicrousSpeed! That is the Perfect analogy!!! I call it, " Kick ass Stealth" ! My car is as Sleeper as one can make Cobra, No stripes, no sidepipes, plain and simple. Plain jane looking motor with plenty of GO. Yates and whatknot parts Most of the original cars didn't have sidepipes anyway. In a croud of blue and white stripe cars my car looks unique, and most of the time it is faster too. LOL |

Roll bar and hood scoop were options on the street car. I really like the curve of its belly that you see without side pipes.

I vote for "under"
I'd opt for under car pipes for three reasons:
1. I've ruined & melted an expensive (NOAH fabric) car cover when I thought it was cool enough to cover, 2. I've twice caught a plastic shopping bag that instantly melted to the sidepipes and the gunk was not easy to get off, and 3. Safety - I'm worried about having copilots and gawkers burned, especially small kids who like to get up close and personal to look. |

Doug, the pipes are 2.25" so there may be a restriction of sorts, there are heat shields provided and it seems to be OK, keep in mind i double insulated the underside of SPF2734.
there is a pinch in the pipe of sorts -- as they go through the rear sway bar. I will take pictures and show them on SAT. Steve |
If you have speed bumps to cross, particularly if you fail to see them ahead of time, under car pipes take a beating. If you can run the pipes through the frame during a build, you can avoid part of that but then heat is a bit of a concern. Do the under car first then go from there....

Geeze, I never thought my car was that weird, but it is equipped just like yours, undercar exhaust, SC dash, hood scoop and roll bar and the incorrect (I guess) FE with turkey pan and single 4 barrel. I ordered it that way (well not the motor) from Superformance in 2001 and I've never been sorry. Lots of car (non Cobra owners) enthusiasts think the car is the "real deal" because it has no side exaust I guess the novice enthusiast doesn't get wrapped up in the hood scoop, roll bar and dash issue.
Anyway it came from SPF with cool undercar reflective panels and insulation between the floor and the pipes. I do not get excessive heat from the floor. The car is not as "macho" and maybe looks a little wimpie when compared to all the S/C striped clones, but John Q Public seems to like it just fine, as do I. Lowell |
