CR1 Package Tray to Body Seal
Question for DV and others:
The 1994 CR1 I'm close to finishing does not have the rear package tray to body glassed or bonded together at the top where it meets the body. Is that because Classic Roadsters rolled the carpet up and under? Or, did they not finish the body properly? I'm concerned that road noise, exhaust fumes, dust, mice or other varmets will enter the car from that area if not sealed. The manual doesn't say anything about it. Thanks. Robert C |

I will go and look at mine and get back to you. I have carpet in the trunk area so that seam is not visible but maybe I can pull it back enough to check. Road noise and exhaust fumes are part of the driving experience...rodents have no place in this world. John |

You're talking behind the seats where the rear inner panel rolls upwards and meets the body at the rear-rounded- cowl edge? IF so it IS supposed to be glued, glassed in. '94 you say? "Henry" took over about that time........??? definitely glue it in place somehow. It adds "structural" strength to to entire rear clip! DV |

I checked and the fiberglass in the trunk area and the space behind the seats area and both are as one. No seam or break there. John |
Not sure this is the best thing to use, but here goes.
I purchased a large tube of simpson strong tie epoxy adhesive, it is almost 20$ for a 8.5 ounce tube. it has this long 6 inch nozzle that mixes the epoxy as it come out. I used it to glue my fan together, and then used up the rest of the tube around the inner front fenders where they meet the body. This stuff is tough. I also use the daylights out of E6000 clear adhesive. This stuff is great and will remain a little more flexible than the simpson epoxy. I liked the simpson because it stays pretty much where you put it and it has this long nose to be able to reach into places. i think it has some flex to it because in commercial construction they use if for earthquake purposes. I have used the E6000 for just about everything - including re-gluing soles on
on shoes. Better than shoe-goo and has a much longer shelf life once opened. |

Nothing surprises me on this car. It was delieverd end of 93 during there chapter 11. Nothing was done correctly. Fender mold seams were off 1/4"-3/8", nothing would line up. I had to cut, twist, re-glass doors to fit. Worst workmanship I have ever seen from the poor welds on the chassis to body mold assembly. Car is completely assembled except for install of interior and Now I have to address this.... My customer is not going to be happy. Its going again prolong delivery and add costs. Guess he thought he got a good deal at the time? Only problem, I'm the one loosing, as I can't get it out of my shop until I'm satisfied its right and I'm loosing my Ass on it.
