Wheel Wells
Hello All,
I am looking for pics and suggestions on how to finish off the wheel well panels. The front wheel wells can be painted because there are no panels. But, the back wheels have the panels to protect the latches and a large panel to finish off the rear of the well. They don't have a "finished" look and you can see the lip of the panel if you are looking at the wheel. I don't want to putty and sand the panel for it will make it permanent. Any Pics and Suggestions Greatly Appreciated. ScottS |

May I ask why you don't want the rear tubs to be permanent. They were meant to be, but owners choice I guess. It does make the body much more solid though. Sounds like cobra 1966 has done it a good way... DV |
Not sure I fully understand what you are getting at?? But... I just taped everything off I didn't want black, bought some 3M spraycan undercoating & went to work.

I've seen several that don't use the rear tubs, and have the inside of the rear fenders coated. That is what I'm planning on doing. Krewton |
NOT TRYING to tell you guys how to build your cars, but... think why those tubs are there....??? Gravel roads or even a rock/stone can really ruin a great paint job from underneath!
DV PS. Krewton, I am assuming your are talking about NON-CR's Cobras? I have have seen hundreds of CR's, never seeing one without tubs? |
I can't really comment accurately because I don't know how your fender wells look like but here is what I did on my Hurricane.
The car has a rear trunk tub so the inside rear is paneled is covered. I added alum. panels to cover up the door latch areas and rear alum. panels to fill in behind the tires. I painted all fiberglass areas with Hurculiner under coating. In fact all areas under the car that have exposed fiberglass are coated to protect and provide a clean appearence. So far, So good. Thanks for all the info. I will have some work to do after I get it out of the paint shop. I probably should have thought of this before but I'll have to do what I can without affecting the body. I may try and fabricate my own inserts.
