engine pipe dreams
The more I read about the new ford 5.0 cammer motor, and the more I worry about the ham-fisted mechanic (me) that built the 351 that's in my CR right now, the more I start to daydream about shoe-horning that 6-bolt main aluminum beast into my engine bay.
I noticed on the forum that BDR and SPF have managed to put make them fit, but I can't find coyote 5.0 vs 351/windsor dimensions anywhere. Thanks, guys - JLW |
I gave up on doing an engine swap. In my case it was from SBC to tall deck BBC (GMPP 572/620). It looked like it could be done but I was not ready to do what was required! I went with a meaner SBC, just under 600hp and I think I'm going to stick a 100 shot of NOS on it just for good measure! If that don't do it for me,, then maybe I need something JET powered?

I would like to see it done. We need an interesting project in this forum. I know of a coyote instal in a 1986 Mustang going on over at www.corner-carvers.com Check it out. http://www.corner-carvers.com/forums...ad.php?t=43946 Not a cobra but might add some insight.

DV should put one in the Cobra he is buying from Capt. Eddie. He is pulling the engine and tranny anyways. Plus he is up to the challenge since he already built one with a Viper engine in it.
|
Is that what DV is going to be putting in that CR ll Cobra? Could be an interesting build thread if he does that.
|
Not saying he is going to, but I think he should!
|
So do I.
I even looked at the 5.0 Cammer! Ist thing that SPF ever did before I did :( DV ???????????????????????????? |

Coyote mustang in a Mk 111. Below is what he wrote. hope this helps. tin-man Well we have the first Ford 5.0 Coyote mustang engine in a MKIII. It is the best Cobra I have driven so far. Not the most powerful but it does light up the tires in first and second very easily. It starts up like a production car, idles very smoothly but if you rev it, it has a great sound, almost to loud. Torque comes in almost immediately. It could easily be a daily drive, with great Gas mileage. It is the nicest looking install and engine bay look, for a modern engine in a Cobra. It looks like a high end factory production car engine bay. The Coyote engines are very reasonably priced from Ford and a viable option. We will have more details later and will share them with whoever is interested. Let me know. Lance Stander, 949-900-1951 Office |
Coyote 5 Engine in a Cobra

Just doesn't do it for me, does not convey the muscle car image of what an engine should look like. My two cents. tin-man |

How about this Coyote engine for looks? I could not find a better picture but they made it look like an old cammer motor with stack injection. This was done for the Raybestos hot rod give away.

:JEKYLHYDEWish List:
Full blown Cammer, with EFI Stacks, single or dual turbo's, or a single 9/10 lb. super charger, entire electric tilt nose such as DV II, in/out roll cage from interior through the motor dept. Dash to be clean and minimal, with just necessary gauges. wiring, all using weatherproof connector for long long time use without headache. 17" low profile, wide tires to the rear with the rear suspension modified so it all fits under the tubs. Inner frame rails modified and boxed to handle the T56. Absolute modified front wiring harness so NO wires show with the hood Open OR Closed. (Learned this neat little trick building streetrods!) Front firewall modified as DV and DV II, gives much more to the interior and the engine compartment. Modified Stange 9", moser 31 splined axles, attached with M/T super street / slicks. Custom designed true fell cell. Misc. neat tricks at they come up. Cost: Probably 40k/50K Minus the kit, plus up to 12 months to build! Any suppliers/sponsors? Still time for one more "Very Special Snake by DV!" Blasphemy, but maybe even a KMP body with one of their super ID-rear end! A driver that would be fully capable of pushing the monster to it's limits! Never stop Dreaming! DV III ? |
DV,
I have to ask what you mean by boxing in the inner frame rails? My CR frame is all tubing. Are you saying that you would have to cut reliefs in the tubing and then box that in? |
YUP,
The cut outs needed for the T-56 ( one on each side of the inner frame rail for the huge bellhousing, one for that %$#!@ speedsensor.) If it isn't boxed it could (?) allow the inner frame rail to flex :( (Same time I make it big enough to make a blow-proof shield so the Viagra still has something to work with! :) ) Wow, can you believe it...sponsors aren't lining up! ;) |
I have the 5.0 cammer in my spf. First to be put in a spf. Lance referred to my build when installing the Coyote. And as Lance said, it is the best driving cobra and I have to agree.:)
