Your used motor sure has a problem. I think I like the new one though. Getting back to the coil on it's side, mine was mounted that way and lasted for years until I was told about it's prone to failure. I bought the black one that is solid and can be mounted on it's side or upsidedown for that matter. It is for high vibration environments, in a Cobra???Nahhh. Anyway if you shake your red one you can feel the oil in there. Now I have a spare (the red one) which I keep in the trunk.

old coil
the red coil in the pic was the old one , it was replaced early on with an epoxy coil that inhabites a different location , I once had an oil filled coil act up and I had to stop every 3 miles and cool it off with water from the nearby swamp and an old tupperware i found ...good times WD
