Remote speed sensors for stock gauges
I have a stock VDO mechanical speedometer and a T-5 transmission. Is there anyone that makes a wirless speed sensor and receiver that would attach to these instead of running a speedometer cable?
My problem is that the speedometer cable is about 18" too long and was touching the header. It is now melted an unusable. I have seen cables that are universal (cut/modify to length) but they do not say that they will work on a T-5. Thanks in advance, |
CRII Gauges
Terri, Although I did not burn out the wiring on my VDO gauges I decided to replace all of them. I got the gauges from Speedhut. I believe they supply Tom Kirkham. They are lit differently then the VDO gauges and are quite a bit brighter. The speedometer was easy to calibrate and I was able to stay with the original hall sensor on the T-5. If you would lke to PM me I will give you a lot more info. Speedhut will make the gauges any way you want them.

Speedhut also has a GPS speedo. No cable or sensor required.

Thanks Z-link, I forgot about that. The only problem that I encountered was the Speedhuts looked so good that I had to buy the rest of the gauges because they made the VDO's look like crap:eek:.

Your right about that. Speedhut is a dream to deal with though. I bought speedhut gauges for mine and since my wifes family lives in Sandy Utah I went visited with the guys andgals at Speedhut on one of our visits. Etremely nice people, showed me how they make the gauges, gave the history of how they came to be, it was cool. I was a diehard Autometer gauge man myself...I dont think Ill ever own anything else. Last I looked they were having a sale...lol.

That is the thing, I do not want to buy all of my gauges again.
What I have done is gone to a local speed shop and they are ordering me a Lokar speetometer cable that I can cut to the length that I need so there will be no excess to get close to the headers. Thanks for all your help guys. |
Terry, I can understand that you don't want to replace all your gauges again.
You would really have to with the speedhut gauges as they are much brighter than the VDO's. For anyone out there interested in my old VDOS they are for sale, CHEAP:LOL:. Jim |
Z-link, My car can break loose in almost any gear thanks to my rock hard BFG's**).

As mentioned above, Lokar makes cables that are easy to adapt and cheaper that a major swappout.
