But will he fit in it?
Hey guys,
This is my first post here, so go easy. :) I could go into my story, but it's the same as many of you. I have 'the bug'. I have now reached the age where I have the means for the Cobra of my dreams (since I was about 10!) and I'm about to pull the trigger. I'm looking at a Classic Roadsters Cobra for sale semi-locally. The seller seems to be an agreeable guy, the price is right, and the car seems to be STELLAR in fit/finish/quality, and it has the right motor (A big deal for me). No expense was spared on the build of the car and the engine....it's cherry. However...there's an issue. I'm a tall guy (6'3) with a bit of a gut (bought and paid for I might add). How do the CR Cobras work with bigger guys? I've not had a chance to get up to see the car in-person yet (it's about a 3 hour drive each way), so before I spend the gas to get there, I'd love to hear some opinions on how these CR cars fit you bigger guys out there. I'm also looking at another Lone Star car that is also close (they fit the big guys better with adjustable pedals, drop pans, etc)...but it's got the wrong motor. :( Would much rather have the big block. I'm 6' and was 215 (200 now). I have plenty of room to spare in my CR. Compared to most Cobra models the CR frame is 6" longer and 4" wider. The pedal area is a bit narrow but my size 12's do just fine there. You should definetly sit in the car before you buy. I believe the Lone Stars are a longer/wider fit also but I have never seen one in person.

The tilt (chevette) wheel and the extra 4" has got to help.:D

Actually I wish mine did not have the tilt Chevette steering column. Without the tilt I bet you could get and extra 3" of belly room. And believe me, I need the extra belly room.

YOU CAN go with a "IDIDIT" non tilt or a "Flaming River" Non tilt. If you are a wee bit taler than me, and who isn't, a NON tilt will work just fine. INFO: Lone star is a "Splash" made from a CR Body! So, they are the same size/ They did do the dash differently though. Dan, the height will not be a problem. it is the girth with the height that may be a problem. And hey, welcome. Don't give up! You can look at the latest build I did for CptEddy and now own. A complete story of how, what and what we did to make him. Special Cobra seats, has the dropped pan, even moved his rear firewall back. For sale in the "for sale area" BUT it is a stroker monster 351! :) DV |

I *really* want the CR one with the side oiler. It has the Hilborn fuel injection on it and a TKO 5 speed with a curie 9" rear. The motor has dynoed to 580hp (has the sheet) and was professionally built (it's punched out to 480). However, the Lone Star one I'm looking at is also nice....Titanium with yellow stripe, lots of extras, 6 speed trans, but it's the small block that gets me (yes..yes, I know...but it's a personal preference). This other one has a 351 Cleveland (yes...Cleveland) stroked out to 396...550hp + Nitrous (why?). It's probably a nicer looking car. I could always buy the Lone Star and pull the small block I suppose....*sigh*...decisions decisions. Dear Dan,
Buy an Autokraft AC MKIV. It is the real thing built in England with an aluminum body, only 386 built with 186 in the US and not a kit car. I am 6'1" and have to slide the seat forward to completely compress the clutch peddle. Your long term investment will be much better. There are a few MKIV's that have been on Ebay and in Hemmings recently. If you need more information, join the AC Owner's Forum in England. They are great enthusiast of the AC marque. Yep, hard decision. The CR is basically a LSC, which is what I have. It's a heavy car versus others but, the weight is the thickest body on the market and the 2x4 boxed frame is very strong. I do prefer a FE/side oiler, which is a boat anchor, especially one with stacked injection !
