Starter problem?
Hi, Had a problem the other day when I sarted the car. The starter kept running after the engine was running. I then tried to shut the car down and it would keep on running. I fiinally got it to shut off. Not sure why this would happen? Any Ideas out there?

Do you have a mini starter or standard? If mini, how is it wired (firewall solenoid in addition to starter mounted)?
Starter run on can be caused by a sticky solenoid, dual solenoid conflict, bad starter, bad ignition switch, or wiring issues. Post more info on your set up. Also, did the engine keep running because it was being turned by the starter or was it actually running? If it was actually running and you had turned it off, this is almost definitely the ignition switch. |
Sarter problem
The engine was running. But the starter was also running. How hard is it to change the ignition switch for a GM steering colunm?

Starting with the basics, it is most likely the ignition switch. You will need to pull the steering wheel off, right down to the "turn signal switch". Look through the switch on the right side, you will see a fairly large screw under the switch. (You can see it through a hole in the switch.) Take this screw out and the ignition switch will fall out in your hands. A new switch can be had at almost any auto parts store. Reverse installation, replace the screw, steering wheel etc. Done and ready to go :) DV |
