Return lip on top of dash
I am doing a rebuild on a CR from the early 90’s. I noticed that near the dash the body behind the windshield wraps around and ends short of a piece that comes up from what I believe is the cowl. You don’t notice it unless you feel for it under the return lip by the dash. It looks like a perfect place to inject in the minimal expanding foam that comes in the BLUE can for windows and doors. Has anybody tried this?

Not to sure exactly what you are refering to. Can you post a picture? Do you have the standard dash or the custom one? What would be the reasoning behind doing it? The way I see it though, as long as you cant see it and it does not hurt anything, why not. Just be carefull on how much you use and where you use it. |
I will post some pics of the area in question over the next several days. The reason why I was thinking about using the foam is as follows. I was told some time ago that using the minimal expanding foam in areas such as the rockers, dash area and inside the doors will deaden sound and make the car feel more solid. I have no experience on this and that is why I am reaching out. I have fully lined the floor boards with dynamat.

HP.... that GAP IS there for a purpose! Without it you will not be able to take the dash out or put it in if it is filled.
ALL foam that you speak of WILL expand. The only difference from one type to the other is just how much it is meant to expand. DV |

Here are a few pics. The pictures make it look a lot worse. You can not see it if you are sitting in the car. If you feel for it it is obvious or like right now i am working from below.

body gaps.
the only gap I filled on mine was in the engine compartment. there is a gap from the top of the firewall to the body. Fill this with silicone to stop wind noise and fumes from entering the drivers cabin
I also installed the rear inner fenders and glassed them in. Sealing them to the inside radius. I coated the inside fenders with bed armor. this should lessen the noise and soften the impact of stones hitting the glass. Hope this helps. |
I blew apart a kayak with expanding foam that expanded too much.
