Roll Bar Install
I have some questions for DV or anybody else thats put in one of the new roll bars. I got the "hoop" mounted. However, I have the third leg layed out and a pilot hole drilled. There's no way it's going to work without going through the corner of the trunk compartment. Based on the following I want to make sure the bar dimensions are right before I go any further.
I know these are higher than the original CR ones, but this seems quite high. Mine measures just over 17" from the body to the top of the bar in the middle of the hoop, and is over 5" higher than the windshield. It looks somewhat odd now, but I know that look can change with wheels, paint, interior, etc. Also, the bend in the leg next to the door is right above the body hole so the grommet is quite distorted and the bezel doesn't fit around it. These two things are making me wonder if a dimension got crossed up when it was fabricated, and is messing up the geometry of that 3rd leg?? Thanks, Wade |
I would say it is too long. Mine is only about 14" above the body. But that is not causing the down tube to intersect with the trunk compartment. Sounds as if the hoop is too far away from the door area. the down tube is supposed to fit just to the outside of the frame rail. I think DV has the measurments on the Capteddies build thread.
If you would like to, PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you a PDF file of the stock drivers side rollbar that I reverse engineered in cad. |
ROLL BAR must be 2-3" OVER your head regardless of how it looks otherwise it becomes purely ornimental.

Is this a rollbar that DV made for you? I think he had an issue with his jig. I had to send mine back to him to get fixed.
|
Thanks for the replies.
Jcmrant, this is one that DV made last spring. Did you get yours back?? |
Yes, I got mine back. I still had to make a few teaks but DV fixed it for me.
|
What was the nature of the fix and subsequent tweak?
|
Take a look at my pics. Just a couple of mis alignments on lengths and angles. I sent them to DV and he adjusted. Tweaks are yet to be known fully since I don't have completely installed but I had to clean up the welds to make a nice finish. DV was great and had a quick turn around for me but you will def have to make some changes and finish touches.

DV, I got my bar fit and installed. When we talked a while back you said that you needed a measurement after it was installed to make the frame bracket for the 3rd leg. Let me know what you need and I'll get it to you. Thanks, Wade

DV,
Do you have any of the 3rd leg lower frame brackets/supports for the roll bar I got from you? |
