Winter projects help please!!!
Car is officially parked for winter. I have a few issues needing tending to thou and would like some input.
1-new rad from previous thread on leaky rad....ordered one from Griffin they were awesome to deal with on the phone and set me up nicely with the right one. 2-need to replace waterpump..was showing some signs of wear on seal so replacing that while rads out anyways. 3-would like to install oil cooler kit in the front seeing as rads out.Any reccomendations on a kit or should i just by the components? I will be adding remote filter location as well. Also should i put an inline thermostat in the oil cooler as i know when oil is too cold it has a tendency to produce sludge? 4-tubular control arms in the front!!! that are coil over ready. This has been a burr in my a** for while now. What is the best way to go? there are soooo many to choose from??. Someone please point me in the right direction here lol. Any thoughts on these plans would be greatly appreciatted guys thanks a bunch |
Dont have an oil cooler so I cant advise on that.
I do have a remote oil filter system installed. Much eaiser than in the stock location. I would contact a Heidt representive close to you for the tubular arms. The coil over shock mounts in the stock shock location. If you do not mind welding on the frame for the bracketry (sp), you might get the wide lower arms. I did not and I installed adjustable strut arms on the lower. Someone else might be able to lead you to the correct shocks. I got mine from Don at CRII but he never gave me the part numbers. All that I know is that they are ProComp shocks. QA1 is probably a better shock to have. I do not know the spring weight either. Sorry. |
Went with Heidt's lower front control arms as the frame had been modified for them when I got it. Very nice set up as it eliminates the struts. Used Carrera adjustable coilovers. The original front springs from Classic Roadster in 1995 were 500# (too stiff in my opinion for SB 351). I went with Eibach 450#.
CAUTION: When I used the Heidt's lower control arms (CA-103's), the mounting points on it for the front sway bar were narrower by 1" per side and, therefore, the sway bar would not set up properly. I modified the sway bar; however, it would have been easier to cut the mounting points off and reweld them to the control arm in the correct position. yep i have the Heidt's also, they can sell you the coilover shocks as well, there are several spring rate choices, for the big block i recommend the highest rated one they have. there is also nothing wrong with using the strut arm as it is a tad stronger than the dual mount lower without. besides its a bolt on and i certainly am pleased with the result
