Clutch set up, throwout bearing?

I currently have a Mcleod hyd throwout bearing installed. It is threaded for adjustment (instead of the shims) so it can be adjusted through the bell housing instead of dropping the trans.

That is not my question though....does anybody with a big block in their CR LTD. have an external slave cylinder and a fork that operates the throwout bearing? Obviously not the same throwout bearing I currently have. I am wondering if there is enough room to squeeze one in. If so I may switch it over.

Thanks,
John

John,

I think that DV set one up on Capteddies old CR. That is a CRII but I believe the same as a CR LTD.

That being said, I do know that it is possible in a CR LTD. There is enough room there. I was going to do that but the $ at the time just did not make it feasable.

You already have 50% of what you need. All that you need now is some hose (and maybe you already have enough) a slave cylinder,a new throwout bearing, a clutch fork and a clutch fork piviot ball.

Your bell housing should already have a provision for a clutch fork pivot ball, but you will need to check if it is on the passenger or drivers side.

Thanks Terry! I hate trying to reinvent the wheel but this is not the first time I have had to work my Hyd TO bearing. The external slave seems so much simpler to adjust and service. I will probably just rebuild it this time around but if and hopefully not there is a next time I may just switch over. It will probably open me up to the next list of qwerks and gremlins to sort through. Ugh!

I truly feel for you. After countless times trying to get McC hydraulic bearing to work right.....I gave up!

Get ahold of Mike Forte on Club Cobra. He sells an amazing hyd. Slave set up for the BB. SEt it once and it only becomes a distant night mare!
