CR cobra ID number location
Hello all,
Is there an ID number on the body or frame of a CR that matches the MSO or anything purchase agreement? If so, where is it located? My kit was originally ordered in '99 if that helps. Thanks, Steve |
Steve,
Nothing on the frame/body will carry any related m o s #'s. What #s are on the frame are strictly production numbers. DV |
I talked on the phone with a gentleman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol Inspection Station today. He told me that if they can't match the MSO #'s with a number on the body and/or frame, they will not approve the inspection, thus preventing me from titling the car.
To complicate my situation, I do not have the MSO. I do have a copy of the original purchase agreement from Classic to the original buyer of the kit from back in '99. The guy for the Inspection Station said that this should be enough provided that there is a number matching the frame/body. In a box labeled "for internal use only" on the purchase agreement, there is a six digit number, consistent with what the guy said would be on the MSO and (in his opinion) the frame/body. Am I completely screwed here or is there another way around this? |
I would call another OSHP station. It sounds like somebody does not know what they are talking about.
I am not sure where you are located in Ohio, but the station in Seville (they may call it Lodi) usually has a pretty knowledgable staff. I've had good luck with them. |
As a retired Ohio Chief detective, and as a legal builder and the only licensed Cobra Dealer in Ohio, what I have told people for years and years, without a kit car with a MOS and that had not been registered in another State and then transferred to Ohio, (This is UGLY) you now own the most expensive flower pot in Ohio.
Sorry... people actually got put in jail and their Cobras impounded "without prejudice" in some states trying to circumvent the rules. Move to Michigan, go to another state, and damn sure not New York! DV |
Title to CR
Steve,
I bought my CR from a guy in Wisconsin and it had been titled in that state. I had it transferred and titled back here to Ohio. I took it to a Ford Dealership for the inspection and the only thing that they looked for, was the vehicle serial # tag or plate which was riveted to the drivers side door jam to make sure the numbers matched those on the title.. I had no MSO , only the title and a receipt of purchase. Good luck. |
OKIE,
Not to confuse, but your serial tag was put on by the original State of registration-totally legal. SGR, you misunderstood the OSP officer. The MSO DOES NOT have a matching number to the car-period! The MSO is only a so called "Birth Certificate" which metaphorically turns you pile of parts into a brand new "KIT" CAR. I WILL SAY, BELIEVED AND LOBBIED that OHIO has this wrong! (So what else is new?!). EXAMPLE WHY THEY ARE WRONG: Say a car guy, like any of us, builds his own car from scratch, my daughters 1946 GMC truck-seriously modified from original with an S-10 frame, 396 motor, 9" Ford rear end, WC T-5 tranny is titled as: A modified Chevrolet S-10 Pick Up! using the legal original title from the S-10  The ORIGINAL TITLE which I have for a 1946 GMC PU is worthless! DV PS SGR- the Previous owner never had the car titled since 1999? If that is the case, "This is ugly!" So you know the MSO is yellow and LOOKS like a title. "INTERNAL USE ONLY BOX" is just that. it is the ORDER number that Classic Roadsters assigned your kit to match up all the parts orders. Sorry. PSS Sent you a PM |
DV,
I replied to your PM, but I'm not sure it went through. If not, let me know. Thanks. |
Got it.
