Original CR rear drum question
Deep into winter here in NE Ohio. I completed the front conversion to 11" Wilwoods with new MC, Proportioning valve and 7" booster. Cannot drive it until spring and wish to test drive with rear drum setup before deciding to spend for 4 wheel upgrade(as I need to spend for other upgrades as well).
So I want to just rebuild the rear drum brake setup 1st. Has ford 8.8" rear end and original CR 9" rear drum brakes. Question is what rebuild do I buy for? Car built in 1992 so I was assuming 92 mustang? (edited: seems like 92 Ford Ranger 9" drum would be correct.) Can anybody verify? Want new cyclinder, shoes, spring kit and drums. Anybody? |
The Mustang would be 4 lug. A Ranger would be 5 lug.
It looks like a Ranger either had 9" diameter x 1.75" width, or a 10" diameter x 2.5" width. |
That is interesting, because the Ranger suspension is leaf spring based and the Mustang is 4-link. But there are 4-link 5 lug-nut rear ends out there. Were these axle conversions?

The SVO had a disk brake 5 lug (7.5"). The only drum I recall is the Mustang, Ranger and T-Bird. The T-bird and Mustang were both 4 lug. In 1994, the Mustang went to 5 lug with disks and the width of the track is wider, but the housing is the same width. The 1993 Mustang Cobra had 4 wheel disks, but were 4 lug.
The conversion is pretty easy and cheap. |

It has been kind of fun figuring out what parts were used on the CR. Since I bought mine used, with no build manual or parts list. The next owner will appreciate the notes for replacement parts that I have been compiling. No plans to sell though, this car is just too much fun. Can't wait till spring to see how my upgrades feel. |
