Front bumper overriders for CR

Played bumper cars with my CR earlier this week and smashed a bumperette along with some fiberglass. I now find that CR used a bumperette with wider spacing for the mounting studs than other Cobra kits.

My CR one has mounting holes that are 3 5/8" (or so) on center apart. The others I've found have 2 5/16" hole spacing.

Does anyone know where bumperettes with the CR spacing can be purchased?

I'm not sure about the overrides, but Nick over at Acton Custom Enterprises made me a custom set of the quick jack style for our CR. Just had to email him the bolt spacing.

I bought replacements for my CRII from Finishline. They fit with no mods.

CRII must have changed the bolt spacing from 1990s CR kits. I called Finshline and their overriders have 2 5/16" bolt spacing. So still looking.

It seems to me that if push comes to shove, I could fabricate an extension plate to make an overrider with the narrower spacing work for the wider spacing. Has anyone already tried that?

Ok, I couldn't find overriders with the CR bolt spacing so I just ordered a set with the narrower spacing and plan to adapt. I'll post some pictures showing what I do in case that might help others who find themselves in this situation.

New bumper overriders arrived

I purchased the bumper overriders from Hanes Hotrods & Cobras, HanesHotRods $160 a pair plus shipping.

They arrived and match the size/shape of the CR part exactly :) They're made of SS except the welded in mounting plate same as the CR part. The finish/polish is done well so they're good looking parts.

They're different in that there's only 1 mounting plate versus 2 and the mount holes are closer together. I knew this before I bought them.

My plan is to make a bolt in mount plate extension. I thought about welding in a 2nd mount plate but I'm worried the weld backside would warp the visible surface and I'd get into a bunch of finish work and polishing as a result.

Mount bolt spacing change

Here's the bumper overrider altered for the CR mount bolt spacing. I made the extra plate from 1/4 flat scrap. First step was to drill out the upper threaded hole such that a 7/16" bolt would fit and turn freely in the hole. It was threaded for a 7/16 bolt to start with. I then drilled and tapped for a 7/16 bolt, and bolted the new plate in place. I then drilled out the bottom hole all the way through the new plate so that I could thread it for 1/2". I then center punched the top hole in the new plate 3.5 inches from the bottom, drilled and tapped it. The new plate needed to be slightly bent (put in vice and wacked with big hammer) so the two threaded rods that mount the bumper overrider would run parallel to each other.

It took about an hour to design and make the new plates.

I did also re-polish the new overriders as the shine wasn't up to my standards.
