I did some interior re-modelling

When I was originally noodling about a Cobra, I was planning to build one; but I knew it would be green (I was debating about vineyard green, versus BRG) and I also knew my car would have tan seats (more Arizona-friendly). So when this green Classic Roadsters car fell into my lap for less $$ than I could build one, and since it had the green/tan color combo I was looking for, I went ahead and bought it instead of ordering a kit.

Here's a before shot of the interior, as it came to me:

The tan seats I loved... The tan dash and door panels, not so much- There was actually too much tan going on with this car.

Recently, I was watching the Lynn Park interviews here on ClubCobra, and in one of the videos, they pulled one of his old 289 slabside cars out of the garage, and when I saw the interior, I paused the video, and took a screen shot - I thought this combination of black and tan looked amazing:

This interior shot of Mr. Park's car gave me all the incentive I needed...

So, this past weekend, I tore my dash panel down, masked everything that needed to be masked, and went to town with 2 cans of black SEM Classic Coat on my dash and door panels. I've used this SEM product on leather and vinyl for over 20 years, and I have been REALLY impressed with it - If you clean and prep the leather correctly (following SEM's instructions, and using their cleaner products) This stuff becomes a permanent color-change, and never flakes, peels or scuffs off the leather. I've used it on old Jeep seats that are fully exposed to Arizona sun, rain, dust, mud, etc, and it has withstood the test of time, so I had no qualms about using it on my Sunday-driver Cobra... It's an amazing product.

Visually, the final results were exactly what I was looking for, and I think it pays a nice tribute to the styling of the early street Cobras... it was a fun $50 weekend project. I'm glad I watched that video :)

Looks good... I had always wondered about the leather/vinyl paint.

Lynn is huge fan of the paint.
I think it funny but it works and has for years.

Awesome job!

Incredible what $50 and a little sweat equity can do to transform a car.

I have been using Mr. Sems' Spray Dyes since the middle '80's. Ever since Mr. SEM stopped in my shop on a country wide promotional tour. AMAZING, I can't tell you how long, how many samples we did on ANYTHING that was new to the Market or even just us. When he visited my shop it was full our standard builds. I.E. Cobras & Street Rods, PLUS one out of place 1964 Cadillac I was restoring for Mrs. DV. INTERIOR WAS WHITE. No tears but obvious of a lot of use. Of course it was Leather & white. Mrs. DV wanted Robbins Egg Blue :( !!!!!. Talk about a big undertaking! Mr. Sem talked me into dying/spraying all the interior parts with his product.... After MUCH discussion on his Product, guarantees, AND a final PROMISE FROM HIM, " IF I didn't like the final product HE would supply a new Leather interior of my wife's choice at NO cost to me!

After daily use with two infants, vacations, and regular hard use I sold the car years (?) Later/? The interior still looked absolutely perfect and new!

USE: DO NOT take any short cuts! PREP exactly as stated. SPRAY ONE PASS AT A TIME. RESIST THE NORMAL URGE TO SPRAY EVEN TWO OR MORE COATS AT A TIME. LET IT DRY COMPLETELY. (Only a few minutes between coats.!!)

Three Coats will normally do it!
IF you follow the directions exactly you too will be will be totally impressed, and you can show off your new interior just like "Moore" to all of us !

Thank you for your time ,and sorry for another DV rant.!
DV

Robert,

Your remodel looks great. It really improved the looks of the interior. I also like the exterior color of your car. How about posting a pic of the whole car, as eye candy.

I don't want to bust your bubble but I think you could use a little more practice, at least one more Cobra! I don't know maybe try your hand on a black and gold one?

Nice job, it really turned out nice, so much so I'm reconsidering my plans!

Thanks

Al
