Tire rub issue
 
Greetings all. I miraculously got my CR thrown together in time for Hotrod Power Tour and completed nearly 2500 miles of driving in 9 days. What a trip! I did some light Autocross action while on the tour and found that I've got some tire rub issues when turning hard. I'm running 15'' Cragar wheels with 255/60/15 on all 4 corners. This was the set up when I got the car. I've not had a chance to pull the wheels and measure back spacing yet but was wondering if the 255 is maybe just a little wider than what most run on the front? Or is tire rub just something these cars are known to do? I did a search and found that a lot of people seem to run 245 in the front and 275 out back. Thanks in advance for any insight! Also as far as suspension goes I'm still running the stock MII springs and a-arms. I did replace the shocks right before the tour though. Maybe the spring rate is too soft? It's a 350/T5 car.

cr67 congrats on power tour run sounds like you did a good job of assembly to travel that many miles with no probes. Did you have any over heating problems? On tie rub , my tires on front are p235/60r15 and on rear p295/50r15 have not had any problems they are mounted on halibrand wheels.Bulldog

Congratulations on the Power tour run and no problems. As for the tire rub issue I ran the same size as Bulldog and never had any tire rub even when racing and turning really tight corners.

I would concur, 255 in the front seems a little large. I run 235's up front on the race car within problems.

Sounds like I will be downsizing the fronts then. Good news is I need new tires anyways due to small flat spots, bad news is they still have plenty of tread left. Oh well. Power Tour was amazing I *HIGHLY* recommend trying to make one if you can.

Bulldog- I had no issues with overheating. Before I left I threw a 180* thermostat in. One time in traffic I was staying at about 200* but it turned out it was because my electric fan upper mount bolt decided to make an exit somewhere along the line. New nut/washer/lock washer and some locktite had me fixed up in a jiffy.

So on further inspection it turns out the sidewall of my tire rubs the sway bar when nearing full lock. Good thing I planned on ditching the sway bar anyways I guess! Probably will remove it this weekend and see what happens.

Guys,

I'm nearing completion of my chassis and suspension upgrades on my 1990 CR1 upgrades and I still need some direction if anyone has found a suitable replacement for the CR original Bronco 2 front swaybar. I need to figure this out before I remount the body permanently and rework the front radiator shroud and inlet air area.

Any swaybar sourcing suggestions would be appreciated short of removing it altogether.

Sway bar is out. Despite valiant efforts to remove in one piece, I ended up busting out the sawzall and cutting it in half. Waiting on some new tubular control arms and once those arrive will be installing them, a new steering rack (mine has a dead spot), as well as my new Wilwood 11'' front brakes.
