Rear end
Hey guys Bulldog here hope everyone is staying safe with this virus going around.i have a question about my 8.8 locker rear end, have everything ready to go back together but having a time getting the opinion bearing pre load right.Ford says opinion nut needs to be140 ft.lbs. of torque and then set pre load at 18 to 23 inch pounds .that is a lot of torque having trouble getting it there.anyone had experience with this rebuild?

Bulldog,
DuckDuckGo is your friend! Here's one video I found that may help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8APYO2sZyJU When I did this, I had the advantage of a rather large bench vise to hold my flange tool, so I could pull against it with the torque wrench. Also, I think the preload is more important than the torque spec, so I'd make sure not to overtorque the thing! Hope this helps, Tom |
Rearend
Thanks Mr.Wells, was think the same thingabout pre load.will visit that site. Bulldog

We did one in the car with the tires holding the gears and two of us pulling with a medium length torque wrench. There has to be a better way.

Dwight,
If you can find or fabricate the flange holding tool - shouldn't be prohibitive because basically it's a flat bar with a couple of holes in it - it can rest against the floor of the car underneath. That way the car can be lifted up a bit to make it easier to use the torque wrench. Tom |
Rear end
Tom, made a tool for that will see how it works thanks again. Bulldog

locker rear
Hi,
The locker rear will have to be driven differently. When you are on the gas the car will want to go straight even if you are turning the wheel for a corner! Just remember to get off the gas to turn. Perry. |
