CRII headers side pipes

Doing my homework on exhaust. I know this has been beat to death on old threads, but they were all so old, that I figured I'd revive the topic as I'm sure some of the manufacturers and availability has changed. My take away is that I'm going to have to have a set of custom headers and side pipes made. Waiting on a few reply's from companies like Gas-n, but I'm not holding my breath that they will fit because the CR had a longer wheel base and replicas all had different frames. We are so limited here for custom and hotrod shops. The guy I bought the kit from is sure he has a set of headers for a 302 somewhere he's going to try to find, but he intended on building his kit without side pipes, and I don't even know if the headers came from CR or somewhere else. If they were CR, did they make headers for side pipe and no side pipe cars? Does anyone have or know where I can get a set of headers for a 302? I know its a long shot, but I've had some luck from the members here with great advice and some parts.

I saw moore_rb's post, "I re-did my car's side pipes... AGAIN." that's the look I want to go with and I know I can handle that, I just have to wrap my head around the headers. Gas-n had a few great videos on youtube about alignment and fitment.

Any suggestions, info, or ideas, would be greatly appreciated.

We built these around 6 years ago and built new headers in 2016 for the LS3 engine! The mufflers 3" ID Cheery Bombs, the collectors are from Schoenfeld! Primary tubes 1 3/4" with 3 1/2 collectors! Ceramic coated by Pro Kote Indy. They seem to work pretty good!

The header flange (get a good one), header wield-up kit, reducer and turn-outs are from Jegs!

That looks great. I’m in. How long are the Cheery Bombs?

Lightingrod 04-08-2021 08:03 AM

A pair of these, 30" body and 35" total length!

Thanks. You got me laughing! I’m doing it. I had these on my first ride in 2 1/2 inch. 51 Chevy PickUp 350/350 turbo trans... good times

The SBC 388 solid roller with AFR heads sounded wonderful with these! The LS3 525 doesn't sound as good in my opinion but it's LOUDER! WFO at 6300 rpm you can sure hear it coming!

Why on earth use a Cherry bomb? The absolute worst muffler out there, way more options. That reverb from the pressure wave as that glass burns out must de deafening.

sunman 04-08-2021 11:33 AM

WHAT?? CANT HEAR YA! That’s why I’m laughing. The twin turbos will knock the noise level down. It’s just a 5.0 it should sound good. I’m not using headers

Roylerumble 04-08-2021 01:18 PM

If not cherry bombs, what would be another good option for a tube muffler? I'm running a 5.0 efi, pretty close to stock with a few bolt on parts

Lightingrod 04-08-2021 01:26 PM

Damn I was off on the build date, it was 2012! This is with the SBC 388! I choose the cherry bombs mainly for size and look! It sounds just fine to me, and after all that's who I was aiming to please!

Classic Chambered Exhaust
Lo-bak auger muffler
flowmaster
magnaflow

Several others make round and long enough , or use ones designed for Corvette sidepipes.
