New CRII build, what kind of wiper assembly???
I'm sourcing out all the parts to start putting together a CRII I bought. On of the things I'm missing is a wiper assembly. The manual says to use a wipers system from a 68-80 MGB RD or GT. I spoke to a MGB restoration parts retailer here and he can get me an assembly for about $375 Canadian. According to him, apparently there are a few differences in the motor gear for wiper sweep and the bezel for the cowl. The manual isn't the greatest when it comes to installation details. Has anyone got experience using the MGB assembly, and was there much modification or Classic Roadster parts that were used. Did it use the factory MGB rocker switch, or was there one on the Chevette column, or can I just wire up any 2 speed and park rocker one. Was it pretty much bolt in (with the exception of trimming the cowl spacer), or, should I consider buying a system like the one Shell Valley has for $495 USD?
Any info, parts, suppliers, suggestions would be greatly appreciated |
There is info in different CR threads about wipers. Don Scott went to Lucas wiper system, I think, and even MrBruce said something about VW wipers in one thread, 04-30-2020, and has a link to the VW setup. I need to get wipers, kinda been wondering what to use too

some of the posts on wiper systems were so old, the photos and links were dead.

I saw the VW exploded view, it's pretty informative, but I wonder if anyone has actually done it in a CR, and if the bracketry worked and how much modifying or fabrication had to be done.

I found these videos on the interweb that help clarify the wiper installation. I have no wiper parts, so I'll have to either buy a kit, or piece one together, and fabricate the wiper motor bracket, but the black and white picture of the bracket in the manual looks pretty similar to the one made in part two of the video.... has anyone got a good photo of a motor bracket?

I see Advance Auto has the VW arm bracket assy (Dorman new) about $70 and reconditioned motor (Dorman) about $80. It’s 20” center on the CR posts and we have cowl bar to defrost plenum a 2 1/2 wide by 1 1/2 deep channel under the dash. I’m going to find a VW measure the posts and if close order the arm bracket assy from Advance store I use that will let me return it if I want to. I will let you know soon. There are new hot rod MG style wiper kits with everything need if VW doesn’t work.

Sunman. rats. I wish it were an option.

Summit and Jegs have aftermarket kits but for a couple hundred extra to have a bolt in original type sounds good.

Tom/ Snake Doctor/ Bethania Garage has faded out of the Cobra stuff. Email what you need maybe have it left. They used to have Finishline and Shell Valley product. No wipers. No more a arm brackets. It’s the same kit Correct has, Lucas. It’s nice that’s what I’m using. We have to make the a arm brackets from the drawing the wonderful tcrist left us. Alignment saver 2 last pix in his gallery. Unless, it probably is a Summit/Jegs/Heidts Mustang II hot rod part haven’t looked yet

That’s what I’m talkin bout. Easy install and “correct”. Don Scott used those at CR II according to the threads, anybody got one, check me on that
