Drive door actuator failed
Hey guys,
I had my drive door actuator fail on my cobra. Passenger side works fine and I swapped the wiring around and driver side still won't open. The relay picks up but door won't open. I looked and it doesn't appear there is a backup release. Curious what actuators should be used and how to open the door or remove the actuator when failed closed Thanks |
From your description it sounds like you have Electric popper door release.
The Solenoid in the door pulls the cable for the latch and a spring loaded popper (optional) opens the door 1-2 inches. The solenoids are pretty universal in size and operation. I'd look closely at the control box for any telltale part numbers or manufacturers info. I'd look at your installed one before ordering replacement. In any case you will have pull the interior cover off your door for access. Hopefully the cable that pulls the latch is broken. Easy fix. |
Thanks for the info. This will be on my list for the weekend. I dont think it is the cable and think it is the actual popper as I can only hear the relay click and not the popper.
Will hopefully be able to pull the door cover off with the door closed and see what I can do. I wouldn't be opposed to a manual release either. Hopefully with the cover off I can see the internals and get a new popper and put some kind of manual release in there. Thanks |
Got it sorted last night. There is nothing inside my door panel besides the male latch for the door. When I got looking at it though the latch is seen through the wheel well and I was able to open it up. The actuator actually still works but the mounting bracket failed and it was hanging down which caused the connector to loosen. I reattached the actuator and tightened up the connector and all is good now. I should look at a better mounting solution (which now it is just a pipe clamp zip tied through the body). Good news is if it fails or anything in the future I know how to manual operate the latch (its great the looks you get when you a 6'4" 260lbs guy getting out of a cobra without using the door haha.

Do you have the electric poppers? If so, I would be interested in the make and model number of the popper. I wan to convert mine to electric poppers.

Yes my poppers are electric.. When I had the one out I looked for a model number as I was going to order a couple to have as spares but there was nothing I could see on it. Maybe when I get some time I will pull the other side and see if I can get any info off of it.

eaks, you may have to take the left rear tire off, there is shield hiding the actual lever, with a cable there, just pull the lever up and the door will open, Hope that helps. Cheers TommyRot
