trouble bleeding brakes

hello all, I decided to flush my brake lines and long story short. I did a gravity bleed on the passenger front and all is well until the bleed stopped running. there is now a significant amount of air in the system and I cannot pull any more fluid to the passenger front or move any liquid with the pedal.
I am thinking there is some sort of fail safe built into the brake system for loss of pressure in order to lock out the broken line and keep pressure in the other three lines. perhaps, if that is the case it has something to do with this picture. any idea how to reset it? Attachment 39022 |
I don't see how you could have gotten air into the line unless the bleed hose went dry, another bleeder was open OR the reservoir in the master cylinder went dry. If any of those happened, it is possible you may need to bench bleed the MC again. . . I've never heard of a safety device such as you described, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Where is your master cylinder reservoir? also make sure bleeders are at the top of the calipers, I have seen them installed incorrectly before.

There are also some calipers that have two bleeders and both must be bled. Ask me how I know.

Start with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, usually the right rear for left-hand drive cars.
Put a hose on the outside upper bleed nipple connected to the bleed bottle or a catch can. Have your assistant pump the brake pedal, then hold it, loosen the bleed screw and let out the air and fluid, then close it. If you have no assistant, make sure the hose's end is submerged in the bleed bottle, loosen the screw, then pump the brake pedal. Repeat until only fluid shows in the hose with no air bubbles, then tighten the outside bleed nipple and attach the hose to the inner nipple. Repeat the procedure on the inner nipple. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder as you work. If you pump all of the fluid out of the reservoir, you will have to start all over again. Repeat the process with each wheel, moving successively toward the master cylinder. Right rear, left rear, right front, and finally left front. Refill the master cylinder reservoir and replace the cap. |
I use speed bleeders / quick bleeders. Makes bleeding brakes and hydraulic clutches an easy, one-person job.

ok people I am an idiot and never removed the black rubber thing from my wilwood master cylinder. once I removed that it bled just fine, I was pouring the fluid on top of the black rubber thing which obviously prevented the fluid from making it to the brakes...
