New owner of old Cobra
Hi, Jeff here, I'm in Orlando Fl. I got my Cobra kinda by default. My friend won a Copart Auction and we went and picked it up in Clewiston Fl. We brought the car to my Shop and did an inspection and started tearing it down to see what the car would need since it was a Flood car. The engine had water sitting it it for the 2 plus years it sat at Copart. It was a sad little car and my friend was heart broke at the amount he was going to have to invest, he bought a new engine from Blueprint and a new set of Stainless side pipes and quit thinking about the car. The car sat in my shop for several months until he decided to sell it,,,, no takers for a sad flood car so he made me an offer and I bought it. Another friend and I have been doing Classic Car restos since 2019 and pretty well setup for doing this Cobra. So my Cobra journey begins. I'll post a couple pics of me getting started and will post progress if this thread gets any interest. Hope there is some CR people still watching.

I'm sure from the last pic I'll get a ration of crap but the car came with a Bill Mitchell Hardcore 427 Chevy small block and it's getting a Blueprint Sniper fuel injected 350/391/ dyno Hp. I've rebuilt the T5 and the 8.8 rear axle with new Moser axles, completely replaced all front suspension parts, new Wilwood master and new calipers, new brake lines, new fuel lines, new seats, new guages. I should have it back together and ready for DMV inspection this summer????

Looking forward to your build. The radiator kit looks great, who’s the manufacturer?

UUUMmm, your oil pan WILL hit the ground. You should consider getting a shallow pan but wider so you still have the capacity.

Good observation, Ron. I agree, that oil pan is no bueno. As Ron said, it's almost certain to hit the ground. Road racing T type oil pan is your only real option here.

Hope you got a smoking good deal on the car because, regrettably, Cobras with a Chevy engine instantly lose a big chunk of their value to hard core Cobra owners. On the other hand, it's your car and do what you want. I had a 496 Chevy in my first Cobra, caught a whole lot of static, but very few wanted to race me at the drag strip. I'd drive 75 miles to the strip, crank off some 10.70s and drive back home on my MT drag radials, breathing through the mufflers. BIG FUN!

Replace all your brake lines, fuel tank and lines, and your wiring harnesses. Anything that all that sea water can hurt. You can find a shallow circle-track oil pan for cheap. Don't worry about the engine make, it's nobody else's business. Carroll Shelby originally wanted Chevy engines but struck a deal with Ford in 1962. Good luck.
