Front disk brake/contol arm rub
I am using 11" Granada rotors and stock Mustang II lower control arms. The tip of the control arm touches the inside of the rotor, just near the inside track of the rotor face.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does something need adjusting, or should I just grind the tip of the arm a bit? |

That is a common problem with the stock Uppers. Grinding off a little of the edge wont bother a thing. Just enough for clearance please! DV |
Lower clearance
I'm glad that "clearancing" is the solution. Otherwise, I thought the lower ball joint was not sinking in enough when tightened.
DV, I do need another verification....... Since I am using a stock front spring (for now) and I cut a coil or so out of it, the bottom of the spring does not mate with the lower control arm on the outside spring seat. The inside is OK, since it gets the weight of the car first. Outside to be riding up a bit off of where it seems it should be seated. It functions OK though. Is this just me? By the way, thanks for the post on your site under the "sold" area. The nice looking Cobra you built and sold with the 460 in it is very similar to what I am trying to acheive. Many of the specs you posted, like weight distribution specs, are what I am using for my car right now. |

The spring will be just fine. Once the weight is on for a week it will fully seat. Are you telling me you are putting in a BB ? If so...Sell the stock front suspension! I know it's another investment right now, but you will not be happy, nor will the car handle worth a darn. Not that it is unsafe or anything, BUT using a tubular set up with coil overs will make a whole new car of it. Much, much better! DV |
There is that much difference?
DV, I know you have driven both the "before" and "after" on the stock vs. tubular suspension.
Does it really make a noticeable difference? What is your opinion of what makes the difference - the arms or the coil overs? I do plan to go the Carrera/tubular route later as an upgrade. |

I've never tried the tubulars w/o the coil overs and vice versa. I compare the ride and handling to truly driving a boat vs. a ski-doo! Or, how about a Ford Esquire Station Wagon, loaded with kids, family and camping equipment on the roof, to a well oiled 10-speed bycycle. Of course that's just my opinion! DV |
