Aldan Shock
Has anyone used Aldan coil overs on the front? It seems like the 653's would work without modification to the 'tower' on the frame. Suggestions?

 here's your first

So far, the best off-the-shelf is the Carerra coil-over setup. RCC offers the best direct bolt in for the CR front suspension. Lower shock mount is below lower control arm centerline for better suspension travel. Handy jacking point also. RCC includes shock upper extention for mating to CR upper shock mount. Nice setup, and it works.
Still pursuing Koni front coilover shock to replace Carerra. Will pull front suspension apart this winter and work with Koni Tech Support for modified MII coil-over shock replacement for Carerras. Koni's are admittedly a little pricey, but they last the life of the car so you only have to install them once. |
Yup, had 6 on my old Contemporary. Thought the car handled very well. They have a lifetime
warranty and they will rebuild them for free. Send me an e-mail at BONYHADI@EARTHLINK.NET and I will e mail back jpeg pictures to big to post here. |
I've got the Aldan's, front and rear. The car rides great now...
Only complaint is on the front, there are no 'positive' stops for adjusting the stiffness of the spring, just a knob that turns freely. It makes them a little bit tricky matching them from side to side. The rears click through six positions - very nice. Dan |
Jack 21, If I understand correctly...
You are REPLACING Carrerra coil overs..??
Why?? Most if not all Carreras are rebuildable.....? And they are the best available unit. |
Simply stated, I purchased parts for the front and rear suspension from a dealer off the 'list' which was supplied by CR.... essentially he sent me Aldan's which won't fit unless I cut off the tower, fabricate a bracket, and re-weld.... He is unwilling to refund my money and I would like to avoid pursuing legal action.... thus I am trying to exchange them for, which I hope that somebody who knows, an item which may fit.

These Carerras are not rebuildable. They have 3 adjustment positions. Actually, they're pretty decent, so replacing them is not on my priority list at the moment. But I do like Koni's, and have Koni's on the rear.

The Aldens should work but probably need a little extra length because of the tower. I would call Alden and see if they will exchange them for a longer shock. The dealer should make this right with you since they don't fit. I would.

Don,
Good point, I found Alden to be 110% cooperative, they informed they will rebuild them for the life of the unit for free... can't ask for more than that! |
I am also running 6 Aldans. All have 6 position adjustment with good detents. Richard is real easy to deal with and exchanged my front springs and shocks for free due to my ordering error even though they were now used-I did not ask for free replacement! I am very happy with them.

Thanks to all who have responded.
Who would suggest I speak with at Aldan? I spoke with one individual (name ommited) who claimed it would not be any big deal, when I called back and spoke with someone else... he said he couldn't help and refered me back to the 'dealer' from whom I bought them. Don, you are so absolutely correct. I should have dealt with you. I only thought it would be easier dealing with someone local..... big mistake... I certainly am surprised that he was on the CR list, once I get the remaining parts, I can assure you I will not be contacting him again. Should have known better when I didn't notice him perusing Club Cobra. His response when I questioned him about the fit was... "cut the tower widen the hole and make a new tower then re-weld, you are going to have to do a lot of this" (certainly not what the brochure described ;-) Thanks again |
Aldans
I'm running 4 Aldan's in the rear and stock Jag stuff up front, that's the way I bought the car...lol. I've been so busy getting the rest of the mess I bought straightened out that I haven't had a chance yet to fool with those Jag shocks. I understand that Aldan is making a coil over for the E-series Jag suspension ? Has anyone had any experience with that ? And it's good to hear that they also rebuild because I have a leak in one of the rear shocks.
