master cylinder question
I'm using 4 wheel disc brakes,11" up front and 10.5" in the back. What master cylinder and booster should I use?Need it to hook-up to CR pedal assembly. Thanks
|
starwolf, you can use the Mustang II booster, it bolts right up to the CR pedal assembly. I use the Corvette master with the 4 wheel disc. It's NAPA # 36367. You will need to elongate the mounting holes to get the proper fit on the booster. You will also need to adjust the rod from the booster to the master. There are a few guys on the forum that have also used the Mustang GT master from the 4 wheel disc car.

SVO '79 - up rear disk conversion kit, M-2300-C uses '87 - '89 T-Bird Turbo Coupe 10" rear disk setup. Part # for the MC is D9AZ-2140-A. Fronts are SSBC 4 piston calipers on 11" Grenada rotors.
It bolts on to the MII brake booster with no modifications. It's aluminum. The brake lines come out the engine side, rather than the fenderwell side. It works. |
Don Scott,
Where do I get brake light switch,Part #? Art |
Art, I use the Mustang II switch, 1974 to 78. It's a Ford switch that they used on most Fords so any part store should have it. It slides over the pin on the brake pedal that the booster rod attaches to.

Disc brakes,2500lb car.Who needs power brakes?
|
Depends, I guess, on how much you want to exert your right leg, and how fast you may need to stop. Original Cobras, as well as Healys, TR's, MG's didn't have power brakes. One could make a case as to whether these cars did, or did not need power brakes.
Using power brakes does give the driver good control over the braking effort, only more of it. A light touch is all that is needed, and with the correct semi-metallic, or carbon-metallic pads (which need more pedal effort to work properly anyway), braking from any speed is swiftt, sure, and responsive. Have power brakes, and power steering. Car has better street, and highway manners than without. Driving a sportscar is supposed to be fun, not work. (For one would prefer to get an upper body workout at the gym, not manuvering car in and out of a parking lot.) Like the rest of life in general, depends on your priorities. |
Parking Lot??...What parking lot!!!
|
Parking lots?
Again. Depends on how you expect to use/drive your car when you're finished with building it. Mine is street, cruise, highway, daily driver. No different than previously owned sportscars. TR-4, MGA, MGB, & Healy. Just a little more (OK, a lot more) Oomph! |
