Front coilovers for the CR
Well, i was going to wait and upgrade to better front suspension later, but I think I will do it now.
A while back, DV told me the difference in handling is like a large boat vs. a jet-ski. I know the Carrera's work well, but before I order them, does anyone have experience with the QA1s or another type? The QA1s have the adjustment valve - is this necessary? Thanks, John |
John,
The carrera's also are adjustable, much like a motorcycle shock. Three settings. We've always set them in the middle and never changed, We now have them in Stock. If you'd like, give us a call. We will figure out your spring rates, etc. DV... |
Have Carerras (coil-overs) in front, Koni's (non coil-overs, Moog Chevette load leveler springs rear). Goofy sounding, but it works.
Still plan on converting Carerra front shocks to Koni's. But the Carerras are working fine, so am in no rush to replace. |
Jack21 why would you spend the money to convert to Konis if the Carreras are working OK? Do you think Koni will be an improvement?
|
DV,
I will be giving you a call on those Carreras. John |
Koni vs Carrera?
Well, have been using Koni's since about '72. The really do make a difference. More adjustment available. And they last virtually forever. Have no experience with Carreras in service replacement cycle, or bushing replacement requirements. Carrera, however, caters to the Street Rod market which the Cobra suspension is adapted from, the Mustang II, so the parts are off-the-shelf. Koni does not. And since the CR doesn't use the OEM Mustang II shock anyway, anything from Koni would have to be custom made, or carefully cross referenced to an off-the-shelf Koni unit. The Carreras, for the moment, seem to be working OK. They are a bolt in, and run. Do, however, spring for the upper control arm mounting bracket that allows the alignment to be set with shims. |
Yes, i remember the posts on the alignment, adjustment problems..thanks.
