Nine Inch Conversion

Does anyone have any reference information on modifing a 9" to fit? I have received one, suposedly altered correctly without the mounting brackets, and I am not filled with the utmost confidence in the way it looks, so I was hoping to find measurements, and other info....

Thanks

Bill

You don't need a 9" diff for a stroker 351W. An 8.8 will do just fine. Use 31 spline axles, and a decent aftermarket Posi. Put the money into the trans, rather than the diff.

However, If you feel you do need a 9", any of the aftermarket suppliers can set it up as a '79 - up Mustang replacement without the horizontal shock brackets.

Like Jack says,
have them cut it, and weld the brackets exactly as the 8.8. Not necessary to use the horizontal quad shock brackets. It MUST be offset like the 8.8 and the brackets MUST be welded the same!

I can't tell you how many guys have wanted to sell me a modified 9" that was supposed to fit the CR's Cobras and the brackets were welded in wrong!

Do you know what the dimensions for the offset are, from center housing to each end? This has supposedly been cut correctly, it "just needs the brackets welded", and before I go through the expense and time to get it setup, I need to somehow check it before I incur any further expense.

Bill, I talked to Currie this morning about the brackets you need. There were several 9" housings from Ford and not all of them will work. You need to determine which housing you have. If you give Currie a call they can help in identifying what you have. The cost to add the brackets is under $200 but you have to get the housing to them so you would need to disassemble the rear. It is a pretty easy job. I can walk you through it. Since you already have the rear end and probably can't return it I would use what you have and bite the bullet for the cost. The number @ Currie is 714-528-6957.

p.s. Check the width of the rear. It should measure 60" from axel flange to axel flange.

Does the Classic Roadsters Cobra use the Mustang 8.8 rear? If so, you can get the 9" modified perfectly from Currie. I have a Currie 9" in my FFR. I ordered it setup for the Mustang 8.8 axle mount (sans quad shock mounts) and the correct width. I just love the way it looks. The quality is SUPERB!!

Well done Venom! Well done.
DV...a 502 in a FFR should be illegal! :)
