Who is Bethania garage???

O.K. I have been absent for a while. My wife and I had a kid 9 months ago, and I believe this is my first time back out here since. Anyway I was reading some old threads when I came across one that mentioned losing front end alignment quite often, and correcting it with either tommy's garage (bethania?) or a strutless package? I am taking my time building my kit, but I would like to do it correctly. I have the Stock upper and lower a-arms with stock strut and Mustang II springs cut down. Should I be looking at switching? I am building a 550+ horse 427. I am going to need every bit of control I can design in. |

You can do it the easy way, call DV and get everything you need from one source designed to fit your car.
You can do it the hard way, like I did, before one stop shopping for Cobras became popular. Used Heidts "D" tubular uppers. They work fine. But all MII uppers slide around, so Tom Beroth with his upper control arm bracket to the rescue. The bracket bolts to the frame, the uppers bolt to the bracket and adjust with shims. No more sliding around. For lowers, I used RCC Specialty Products lowers (mounts the shock an inch further down for more shock travel, and provides a nifty lift point for the floor jack). Got the entire lower control arms, Carerra coil over springs and shocks, "Long" upper shock mount specific for CR's, and standard strut rods with urethane bushings. Would have liked to have gone with strut rodless lowers with body off car, but couldn't find anything I thought was strong enough. If you look at the force moments on the front axle (fore & aft when hitting a bump, and twisting in the direction of wheel rotation when applying the brakes) and where the strength and reinforcements are in the CR frame, the strut rod seemed the safer way to go. I was the one doing most of the griping that the setup was still to stiff, but after a few thousand miles, it softened up, and no complaints since. Would still like to install Koni shocks in coilover form, but the Carerras are working just fine at the moment. Doubt I'll play with it until Carerras need replacement. |
